power steering + Heater

rite got a problem with my westy, the power steering and heater are on the blink keeps coming on when i tend to hit a bump then goes off after the next bump.

i know theres a fix to do with the steering colum and the ignition barrel, as i fixed this with my old saxo.

just thinking if its same problem or not, because i can here a clicking from the fuse box when it starts/stops now could this be the relay or barrel?

    cheers

The clicking will be a relay. I would get that replaced first and see. Cheap as chips and sounds like your problem

Make it click and touch each of them. You can feel them clicking quite noticeably

I have read herein how short circuiting the brown wires will sort the multi PAS, heater and fan problem. I simply have the failed PAS issue and the heater and fan is OK. To be cost and time conscious in what order should I check/change the various items … grey relay, ignition barrel, fuse (if there actually is one) pump motor other?

    Thanks in anticipation

    lol

undo the steering collum cover (undo 2 torx screws) locate the 2 red wires. cut them ones after the connecter about 3/4 way down. join them together using a block connector. problem solved.

Thanks Laberridge I will give that a go and get back but I haven't tried that so far as other replies have said that will not work for someone with only one of the 3 malfunctions (PAS, fan and rear heater).

Well sadly Laberridge there is no sign of the brown/pink/brindle wires on my 1997 Saxo behind the steering cover cavity or elsewhere. The red wires and associated connector half are there but not its female half and its wires. I also took out the ignition barrel but no sign of burnt connections. Any other ideas or do I just need a good auto electrician?

    Thanks

guide there how to do it, and what you be seeing. if its just the power steering then that wont solve the problem. check cables to power steering pump and more than likely the pump has gone, first try hitting it with a hammer, someones solves the problem funny enough.

Thanks agian Laberridge. I had checked out your bridging suggestion earlier only to find there were nothing connecting the two red wires (other half of connector missing altogether and I suspect the bridging was done earlier by previous owner somewhere else in the circuit but can’t find same so far.
I checked out the ignition switch just in case for burn wire ends … zilch

I have now also tried the hammer technique you suggest in various degrees of severity with no positive result.

Someone else in the forum suggested there was a dedicated in line fuse but I cannot see one.

So, does anyone have a working PAS available (plus grey relay if available) for sale? Also a guide as to the best way to change same would be handy. .

If so please advise price either on this forum or by email to
