Loud pinging noise from the back of car

Right I as the title says really
I have a really loud Pinging type of noise from the rear when I corner hard or go round a funny/sharpe corner, it only does it now and again too

Before any says the beam is fucked, it's not I had it completely rebuilt a month ago by piggy123 and his dad

everything was checked over when I put it together making sure it was all tight etc, it then made a similar noise to this, me and willsy checked it over when I fitted my 21mm torsion bars and the arb bolts were done up but didn't take much to undo if you get me so we tightened them up a bit more, also the 2 of the beam mounts again were done up But not as tight/or as much as they should be so we did these up, problem solved

But now a 2 weeks later I've got a similar noise ad before except more of a ping where as before it was more of a clunking noise

What could it be? Could it be I've over tightened the beam mount bolts? Or they need a bit of grease? I've checked it over and everything is tight and ok so it's not something loose or out of place

I also have a rattling/clanging noise when I go over like pot holes and rough roads sometimes, it sounds like loose ARB but I can't are how as all the splints are spot on bolts are tight and it has brand new o/e arb seals on the end area too, it's also positioned right too as Willsy checked this when we put it back together

I'm stuck to what it could be, any one got any ideas?

    Thanks

    Chris

I know of this thread, and already thought of it, and when I fitted my new torsion bars we pulled the arb out and put it back in with new bolts and made sure it was lined up

Thanks for your input though mate

No they wernt loctited, I jut put new ones in
I have my car on axle stands today and tomorrow painting the arches behind the wheel, so will pull the bolts out and put back in with shit load of loctite later so it can set over night

I wouldn't have thought no loctite would make such a difference lol

It has every time my arb has been off

It will be the ARB plates mate. What I found was the best cure (after trying numerous methods listed on here along with Williams' guide to tightening the plates). Take the ARB out or pull one of of the plates off the ARB spline by 20mm or so. Then use some sealant around the edge of the plates that will touch the beam (the face that will mate with the beam - when you see it will be self explanatory). I used some black gutter silicone sealant that stays in a rubbery kind of compound. Smack the end plate full onto the ARB splines and tighten up the 2 bolts that secure them both.

It happened on a friends Saxo too and I used some white bathroom silicone sealant for that one, it did the job just fine .

ok, well if only ihad seen this earlier in the day lol, ive already removed the bolts and refitted with loctite

is this in regards to the rattling around noise that i think is the arb?
if it is then ill pull the arb back out tomorow and re seal it all up, hope that cures it cause its quite irritating tbh hahaha

    thanks for the advice

i will be reporting back tomorow night if this has cured the problem, hopefully it will

if you still have no luck check the main torsion bar the big center 1, the plates that bolt to either end make sure there done up tight.

Yer that is the arb (antiroll bar) you mean, and we've just been on about them end plates lol

Loud ping will be the rear arb. Need to stick some hardcore loctite on the splines before re fitting it. Then tighten it in and let it set. Thats how i got rid of my ping.

Also loctite the end plate bolts. I usually stick and extra washer on there to, so the bolt doesnt bottom out when tightening it.

i did what it said here http://www.saxperience.com/faq/show-...e.php?artid=87 ,sorted it for me

i forgot about this thread lol

right i had a lok a my arb on sunday and tried the above things paul and harv said which was, secure the arb bolts with loctite, and use a bit of silicone sealant onthe end plate where it meets the beam

and ive now done 140miles since then, and ive had no pings or rattling noises at all, and ive tried driving hard round a corner which is whe the nises occured, and have gone round all the odd corners that made it ping preivously and no ping
    so problem solved

however, when sortin this on sun, i noticed that my end plate wasnt quite straight, which i think may have been partly the culpret tbh, it was only a tiny tiny bit bet, right near the bolt, so we straighted that up too and all is good now

i used to get rattles from the arb when going over rough surfaces, this has on now

    so very happy

ye i know some one that had that pinging problem the garage told her it was the axle wanting 400 odd to fix it took it to a different garage and they changed a bolt on the arb for 15 quid and problem sorted
  15. #15
Yer that's cause some garages will associate a pinging noise as a fucked beam, especially to people who they think they get get away with doing it too, but then you do get some genuine garages like she did in the end

I mean tbh i phoned imaxles up, and told them about the pinging noise when it first started to get an idea of what I was looking for, but I Forgot to tell them at first I had just had it rebuilt, and they suggested it might be that my beam has gone because it can make a knocking/pinging noise when the beam goes, then I told them it had just Bern rebuilt and they asked if I could go so they could have a look and help find the prob and they said it could be the arb, then I posted on here and had some good ideas and then it was solved and saved me a 45min drive

But you see how easy it is to say I could be nackered beam, so you can understand the garage said it would need a rebuild

Good stuff mate, I told you it would work. My end plate was slightly bent too where you bolt it down, mine was bent outwards. However I don't think this was the culprit, as I straightened it out and it still pinged around corners. When I used the silicone though it all disappeared, glad its sorted .

lol tbh im not sure what cure it, as i retaped he thread, used loctite and used sealent haha i just did them all so i could cover all cases, how ever the rattling has gone too so im guessing that was the siicone sealant that solved that though
yer mine was bent like, erm how do i explain it, it was flat at the bolt end, then literally 4mm away from the boltit was bn outwards aay from the beam, like it it wasnt sat flush against the beam when it was tightened previously, which was most likely me being in a rush when i fitted the 24mm arb as thats when i had it undone last before i fitted the 21mm tosrion bars as i was racing against the dark fitting the 24mm arb hahaha
i am unsure if it did d anything to the pinging too like you said, i do think it may have been contributing to the rattling noise i had though

Sometimes the arb plate wears on the beam preventing it from sitting flush, obviously this gives it room for freedom and the arb plate can still move even once tightened. Just have to do a lil bit of welding to put back the material thats been worn away.
