VTR sounds like a subaru, but lacks all power

  1. #1
My VTR was running fine until the other day one of the injector started to leak luckly i managed to find another injector the next day so fitted it put everything back together, as i took the coil pack all sensors apart etc. when i went to start it up it sounded like a subaru although it sound rather cool i knew it wasnt running right, i needed it for work so i drove it how it was for about 50 miles with no problems apart from the sound and distinct lack of power and looking like a twat. any one have any ideas what it could be someone said it could be the spark plugs.
i also have a 4-2-1 mani decat straight through exhaust and piperX induction if that helps.
    cheers

Yeah I would go with missfire if you have been messing about with the ignition components

Take the coilpack off again, remove all sparkies again and refit

i had this problem, sounded cool lol told my mates had a engine out of a Scooby put in but yh theres no power in there anyway put your foot down and nothing. uses alot more fuel to

    could be a dodgy injector
causing one of the cylinders not to run.
or the wiring to the injector??

but first try coilpack and spark.
    then go to injectors
  8. #8
sounds like its just firing on three cylinders
    change the spark plugs
  9. #9
changed all the spark plugs did nothing changed 2 out of the 4 injectors as they were slightly leaking, tomorrow im going to try a different coil pack any other suggestions?
    cheers

Mines done this mate ended up being the coilpack.. You got NGK plugs in? I had those bosch super 4's and they caused this with my car. NGK's Run no problem

I drove 2 mile like that lol 2nd gear all the way wouldnt go over 30mph thier just wasnt any power

engine light (not always) should flash to let you know its not firing proper..

Will check back and see how things go anyway bud

cant remeber what plugs but i changed them between a 206 as they were the same but ill change the coil pack from the 206 to my VTR as they look identicle and have the same plug. ive been driving it for 2 days like this as i use my car for work. the engine light was on but has now gone of since i canged one of the injectors.
as for power it will still do 60mph in 2nd gear will just take soo much longer and sounds sooo loud especially with a 421 decat jap can.
    cheers for your help mate

You've had a missphire. Then the car goes into safety mode, hence no compression and lack of speed.

Try resetting the ECU to clear the warning lights- if this fails. Replace the coilpack.

I had the same problem before; http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=293397

I had the ECU reset and cleared the warning light and all was good for me.

However, other people have had there Coilpacks replaced and it's done the trick.

    Good luck.

Turns out a 206 coil pack doesnt fit. Am now in search for a coil pack and all the scrapys in my area are lacking in saxos.
  14. #14
Change spark plugs and coilpack, same problem as I had.

Your car will be fluctuating on 2-3 cylinders lol

Just tried a different coil pack did nothing still the same. Now im broken down on the side of the road, seemed to loose all power and the car just died.

what are the ht leads? sorry if its really obvious. cheers
  18. #18
your car dosent have ht leads as it runs a coil pack.i would have to say that you prob have a faulty injector if you changed the coil pack ans still no joy.
have you checked the spark plugs are in good condition and the elevtrodes are correctly gapped. once you have checked the gap between the electrodes re fit them and see if that works if not then unplug one injector at a time until there is no difference in the way your car runs. as your engine needs 3 things to run (air , fuel , spark) once u have found the dodgey injector replace it or replace all four i got a set for my vtr just after christmas from ebay and was only 25 quid.

I think thats what im going to have to do , when i get out of bed ill change the other two injections. I managed to get all 4 and a fuel rail for 75 at a scrappy seems a bit expensive in comparison to yours. Cheers for your help mate.

Changed the injectors, spark plugs, coil pack and still sounding like a scooby and has no power. I rang my go to machanic explaining everything he said that a valve could have lost pressure or something along them lines, ill be getting a diagnostics on it at 2 o'clock should sort it out.
  21. #21
yeah sounds like a valve is bent and not giving compression in the cylinder hope it hasnt mate as if it has your talking some big money might aswell do some head work whilst its off.
  22. #22
How much we talking? Would it be cheaper to get a new engine?
  23. #23
I dont understand though it was fine until i had that leaking injector and now its all gone pete tong.
  24. #24
At the machnics did a valve pressure thing where they put something where the spark plugs go readings came out like this.
    1 125
    2 130
    3 165
    4 135

    Anyyone know anything from this?

basically it means that preassures in each of your cylinders is way out all should be within 5psi meaning that eitha your piston rings or valve / valve seats is nackerd all mine are at 160 after i had new piston rings new + new valve seats.

i just had my full head reconed by a friend who did it with 10%discount and it cost me 190 for the head rebuild and a further 150 to port and polish
then you have the price of the head gasket and always worth replacing the cam belt. your better off geting prices from the place that did the compression tests as they will give u prices as i did all the work myself.

could be worth buying eitha a recon head or a second hand low milage head as it could wok out cheaper but u will need a head gasket and cam belt anyways then labour.

ive just had a £15k diagnostic machince on the VTR and the main thing it cam back with was a knock sensor could this have anything to do with it never heard of it before?
  28. #28
the knock sensor basically does what it says it sences knock in the engine. if this has gone it can make a difference to youe engine but not shouldnt make it sound as described. well atleat iv never heard of it before. might be worth replacing it but as said before yur head wants looking into as the compression readings were way off so your engine wont be running as good as a matched compression head would be.

i want to keep you in my pocket you know everything, cheers for your help mate appriciated. im getting someone to properly look at it tomorrow see what he says ill mention the compression readings.

The scooby is no more i changed all the injectors from a 2003 engine but turns out one of them was nt working properly as i took them all out to see which ones were shooting petrol out so replaced it with my old original one now everything is running sweet but i do miss that scooby sound. Cheers for all your help guys
  31. #31
good to see u got it sorted mate as as for the compression readings dnt worry about them unless it goes pete tong again. or you could get them tested again but squirt a lil bit of oil in each spark plug first this will seal around the piston rings giving you a true reading to see witch are leaking pressure then you can decide if u want to sort it or buy a new engine or think bugger it lol .
