DIY GSXR 1000 Throttlebody Conversion

  1. #1
    Anyone tried this?

If so what materials and techniques did you use?

How successfully have they worked/what have you made on a rolling road with them?

Post up pics with a description of you efforts

Trying to save some pennies and do a conversion myself, i just want to hear people experiences and advice before i start spending/wasting time

Have access to a full mechanical engineering workshop that my mates dad runs so equipment/specialist techniques shouldn't be an issue

    All advice/expressions are greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

i wouldn't bother mate for about the same amount of money you will spend on them and the set up you can get a full set of throttle boddie's made for your car. the problems with the bike boddie's is that they have to be modified to flow enough fuel. and once modified they very rarely flow the same amount of fuel to each cylinder. i'm not saying it cant be done because it has been done loads but is hard to set up as the boddie's need to be set up with the rest of the furl system manually and not many people can do it and those who can charge the earth for it my mate has it done on his gti and he paid out just under 2k for a set of fireblade boddie's new pump lines and fuel pressure regulator half the money went on set up fees and rolling road charges.

    2k WTF is he mad?!

If its too much work i'll just save up and send them off the Sandy/Colin for the conversion, with the cost of the bodies and all the conversion work thats only £775 (with an ITG filter), and they work as well as any of the leading brands as they run OEM injectors which can obviously be upgraded to any size Pico injectors to meet the engine requirements

Think you mates been had good and proper though lols!

Definitely get Sandy on the case. £2k isn't far off the mark, factor in standalone management and mapping.

2k is cheap tbh bogg bros who do the conversion to vauxhalls mostly charge anything from 1500 to 2500 all depends on what management you want and what pump and how long it takes to set up its far from a plug and play job i known people around here and the honda ownder's club that have been 6 months with a badly set up car.

With standalone and mapping I'll only just break 1k bargains FTW!

Cams will set me back a fair bit to do properly though

    Sandy set-up it is!

They saw your mate coming and bent him over a bit!

Flow enough fuel?!?! He running carbs? As they require a lower fuel pressure so might account for his 'expensive' fees and rr charges

Jim-Bob - I'd just save a bit harder and longer and get a sandy/Colin setup, then you'll know it's pretty much bolt on

i`m about 90% done on this myself....

make a jig and get a flange for the head cut:

roll some tubes cut to size and weld them on:

as for trumpets you can do what sandy does and sit them inside.. or use some hose and clamp them on.. personally i had some flanges laser cut and welded them onto the bodies:

which then let me chose a range of trumpets from jenvey:

the 2nd butterfly spindle holes need blocking up so you`ll need some bungs:

in honesty i`ll probably sack the hose off that joins them to the manifold and weld some more flanges on...

basically its a LOT of farckin around and if you aint an engineer its probably easier to just phone colin/sandy and get there kit..
