Bad idleing...

   Ok, so my car is awful at idleing, revs going up and down, all the time, they just wont settle, then because my exhaust is aftermarket one it makes stupid noises becuase of the revs going up and down. Sometimes it even cuts out!
   
   Anyone suggest the problem and the cure for this?

   Idle Control Valve
   
   Remove it and clean, it tends to stick sometimes
   Fairly common on Saxos

   whats the icv on the mk1 vtr?
   do i take off the air filter and spray some carb cleaner in there or something?

   Is the car doing its bad idling when cold then righting itself when warm?If so it could also the coolant temperature sensor.

   yes it does do this! more when cold!

   sometimes it even cuts out! so annoying

   do you just take off the air filter than and spray it inside the inlet? how much do you spray?
