wich rear axel do i have

  1. #1
ive been looking at refurbed rear axels for my 1998 106 quiksilver and ive been looking at rear axels but the only ones i have seen say either 1.1 and desiel or vtr/vts and mine is neither mine is a 1.4.

it does have the same front brakes as the 1.1 247mm soild discs so is the rear the same????

it does have rear drums not discs.
if i brought the vtr/vts rear beam would that fit using my drums or would i need to convert to discs to use that axel.

some info would be great it seems to be a missed subject in the faq section and a search on here and 106 owners seems to come up with allsorts.

    cheers guys/gals.

Just but a VTR/S axle, and fit that. Direct fit.

why not just buy a 1.1 106 axel or one off a 1.1 saxo?

go for the vtr/s axle then ur upgradeing to disks on rear and there the same fittings and i think cables

its not a direct fit, it will fit but you need a differnt handbrake cable and the brake pipes need to bent iirc

what?? hes asking if the 1.1 is the same as his, not where to get a 1,1 beam from

and to answer your question yea you'd have the same beam as a 1.1 but fit a vtr/s one if you want discs on the back but it wont go on as easy as a drum beam, if you get a vtr/s one make sure it doesnt have abs on it

except for rear discs which im not that botherd about as the front brakes do most of the work anayway what benifits do the vtr/vts rear axel have over the other?

iknow the vtr/vts rear axel is thicker but how would that affect the car?

just has discs instead of drums and a thicker antiroll bar i thought

yea the arb is thicker therefore better handling, but id stick to a drum beam, my mate had a cammed 16v 106 xsi with brembos on the front and standard drum beam and it braked/handled fine
