neglected my saxo.

Hey guys, after along time of ignoring all my problems on my saxo i finally have a bit of money to sort it out, i was wonder if you guys can help out with a few tips?
First off it takes a few turns of the key to start my car, it doesn't tick over it just makes a horrible electrical noise i think its the starter motor, are they cheap and easy to replace?
    2. In the dam the idle rev's go to about 500 and makes a shuddering noise, ive replaced all the spark leads and this hasn't solved the problem.
    3. Also in the rain now and then the car becomes really sluggish and it feels like its dragging over a pistol, is this because the spark leads are getting wet?
as you can see i have neglected my saxo for a while but its a lovely little car and would love to get it sorted.
    any help would be great.
    cheers Dale.

Starters are pretty easy to replace mate yes

The dodgy idle could be your ICV, have a go at cleaning it. If that doesnt cure it it may need replacing, or could be MAP sensor.

Give it a good service - oil, plugs, filters and see if there is any improvement!

To be honest im not mechinally great as you could proberly tell, one of my friends suggested to me so i thought i would mention it.
in detail basically when its went recently the car struggles to start and when i finally get it started i have to use alot of revs to pull off or it stalls, then i have to give unusual large amount of throttle to get anywhere and it jerks the harder i push the throttle, after about 30 minutes it goes away.

ok it sounds either like your idle control valve is playing up (it controls how the car behaves when it's stood still). These are pretty easy to replace but try locating and cleaning it first.

It might also be a problem with your fuel system. The fact that it's jerking could indicate the engine isn't getting enough fuel so you have to really open up the throttle to get it moving.

It's always worth replacing spark plugs, ht leads, oil and filters just to give the engine a break. Especially if it's not been done for a while

Clean the throttle cable as well, mine used to stick and even caused me to stall at the traffic lights.
