Federal track day tyres

Some interesting track day tyres from Federal...

The 595 RS-R according to the spec appears to be more like a 195-45-15 than a 195-50-15 (557mm OD) & costs £78 from DT.

    http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Motors...Tyre/2153/7903

The posers among us may prefer the FZ-201 as it has a fancy tread pattern and is larger at 576mm OD and costs £102 from DT.

Get that price agreed an I'll have a set tomorrow!!!

Back to the OP, I was talking to a chap who worked for a motorsport tyre distributors and he said that the 595RS-R have been performing really well.

The other ones I was looking at were the MaxSport RB5's, but they only do them in 185/55/15. Will be alright on some old steelies though

So about £390 inc delivery. Thats not too bad actually for a set of 15's
  15. #15
388.80 for a set of 15s R888 rubber, thats surely a good deal?
The only problem i have is i reckon that we could get massive amounts of people on this, and 50 sets of R888 rubber at my house would be epic lol!!
  16. #16
Surely he means delivery to individual address'?

Post a thread up in the tyres forum and see how many we can get interested, if they only require 5 for a 10% discount, if we get say 15, then surely we can wangle a 15% discount

Lol, an extra 5% is a big wangle

I have put it up in the tyres section, will see what interest we get etc.

I will send them a further email upon numbers.

    Jason

    Also will ask about delivery.

I was looking that them tyres the fz201 but the price went straight up so worked out more than others, then got a good deal on some silverstone type RR,

I dnt think any one on here has try the silverstone, but in a test back to back with other tyres including 888 and AD48 it came out on top.

It also include Other semi slick tyres.

Maybe worth a look, but I know the price is high on them now as I got them for 80 quid a tyre include vat, but know normal price is over 100 quid a tyre.
  19. #19
You should of got a price for the 595 RS-R as well...

If the quoted o.d. Is correct it'd be better suited to a saxo/106.
  20. #20
i did they where abit more after i got the price on the silverstone, but was told that they are more a fast road/track day, not a semi slick as such, if i am correct though, the 201 are not for the road at all, i think they state on the tyre competion only.

ill get the review on the silverstone,

see review, seem to be good from what they are saying.
  21. #21
What does everything think to 185/55/R15's on a Saxo? Really tempted with the RB5's...
  22. #22
I think your going off topic.

Best to steer clear of remoulds for track days.
  23. #23
does anyone know if these are any good or not? and how they stack up against R888?
  24. #24
    Try them and see.
  25. #25
The Ma5da race cars use the RS-Rs, and they seem to rate them.
  26. #26
Just need to sus out where's cheapest to buy them from...
  27. #27
    Www.Mytyres.co.uk are selling the 195-50-15 595 RS-R for £62.50 delivered.
  28. #28
    I'm interested in 6 Yoko A048 185-55-14.

Bit of a bump but worth a try
  29. #29
I can't believe federal have put there prices up that much, they should of stayed cheaper as they are getting closer to more well known companies.
  30. #30
    I know, it sucks.
  31. #31

Well I've had these on for 3 days now and I must say I'm very, very impressed. Only using them to scrub them in a little before track use but I'm contemplating keeping them on as road tyres as well for the summer at least.

The following review is going from Toyo T1R's as a road tyre:

Pretty much every aspect of driving has improved - cornering, braking, acceleration, ride and overall grip. The sidewalls are stiff, my local tyre fitter said they were harder to fit that R888's! It took him over an hour to fit them and apparently they were very easy to balance un-like some track tyres (remoulds for example can be a bastard).

Cornering speeds are much quick as the grip is just constantly there and turn in is much, much sharper due to the stiff side walls. I also find that braking is much more consistent as with the T1R's, the rear used to lock up on harsh breaking causing it to step out - not really a problem as you get used to catching it, but its far nicer to drive now. After giving them a good blast around the lanes in the evening (the day before with the T1R's and Saturday evening with the Federal 595 RS's), the difference in grip was extraordinary!! Okay, road noise has slightly increased as once worn, the Federal's tend to pick up quite a few stones however all decent semi-slicks will do this.

I was also impressed with the 8mm of tread compared to the R888's and A048's 5mm, meaning they should hopefully last a fair bit longer. At the moment, I feel they are easily on par with the Yoko A048's I used to use on track (will need to give the Federals a good blast at Oulton to fully compare) and they are in a different league to the Toyo T1R's. I would recommend these to anyone - okay I did manage to get them for £65 a tyre an it has increased a little. But for £277 delivered then fitted (I pay £2.50 a tyre), £287 full fitted is very good value for what your getting. Your saving over £130 for R888's and £150-£180 over A048's!! If your looking for a reasonably cheap or cheaper track tyre than the larger and overpriced brands get the Federals. I understand I have not yet used these on track but I've got a day booked in May where I will give them a good run for their money however the reviews online say they perform excellent on track so it should be quite a good day. Just praying its dry now .
  45. #45
They are now 300 quid delivered, but still if they are close to the 888 and ad48 then be good value for money.

Only problem is I can see them getting higher in price last year could get them for 50 quid so they are going up all the time.
  46. #46
I'm ordering a set just as soon as i get the payment through from the chap buying my 2 radial slicks i'm selling.

I ordered 2 uniroyal rainsport 2's for the rear of the Saxo for road use earlier tonight...
  47. #47
Rainsport 2s are good tyres. Mine had their first track outing t'other day.
  48. #48
I have a set of rainsports 2 for road use and wet track days,
  49. #49
    Fed's ordered.

Good man . I've had mine on a week or so now and I really like them! May be a little too hard for the road sometime but I'm just scrubbing them in a little before track use. Impressed with the amount of grip and feedback through corners though!
  51. #51
I'm about to order a set of these
  52. #52
Can get these for £274 fitted local to me... Very tempted! But my r888's have a decent amount of tread left on them so not sure what to do yet...
  53. #53
My ones are hanging up in the garage.
  54. #54
Been using these for a month or so now and still love them. They're well scrubbed in now and grip on the road is very good! Yet to use them on track but should have done 2 track days in France by August so I'll report back then .
  55. #55
Josh I'll have a set for that
  56. #56
Used a brand new set of these today at FCS, very very impressed with them!
  57. #57
