Car revs on its own

As stated above. Revs on its own, either when im at a stop or when i'm driving, doesnt matter what gear im in. Its done it since ive got it, but it happend once in a blue moon at first. Now its all the time, most it will go is 20,000 revs. But anyone any ideas why? Its annoying and can be dangerous if im coming to a stop or someones crossing road lol

i ment 2,000 you know what i ment. And yes i know to push the clutch But if your coming to a stop, when its just ticking over, and it all of a sudden revs it jolts forward then the person thinks your trying run em over, same if your going at walking speed in traffic or summin, can get whiplash, espesh at 20,000 revs

Clean the idle control valve and throttle body too,
If cleaning it doesnt solve it it may need replacing

or, it could be a split vacuum hose. i accidently split a vacuum hose on my saxo, when i had it, and it would sit at 3000rpm when idling or if its in gear it would drop down the revs when slowing down.

even the slightest split can cause this
