Raceland Coilovers

  1. #1
Hi Guys, I'm looking at the best ways to lower my Saxo cheaply. I have looked into just getting some springs but I wanna go quite low like 60mm and I heard that it is not good to lower more than 40mm on standard shocks. So, I looked into coilovers and I dont want to pay alot, I have found some Raceland Coilovers on eBay which I am not expecting to be great but they will do the job? Has anyone had any expirience with them? Or know if they are any good?
    Thanks alot

scottyvtr recently put these on his Saxo, and there was no instructions what so ever on how to arrange these.

I will tell him about this thread and he can give his opinions on the coilovers.

What I will say is if you check the group buy on the Gaz coilovers for £300 is a superb buy

They will do the job and they are "great". I use them by myself for more than 5 months now and the handling is very nice for that price tag. My lowering is atm at 30mm, but 60mm is very easy to do. We have a lot of discussions here in germany about those coilovers, which are manufactured by Bilstein anyways, but with a more common quality.
There are many people driving them for more than 5 years and many thousand miles, nobody really complained about them. The suspension is stiff, but still comfortable. So if you don't have more cash to buy branded coilovers to fit your ego in the pub, go for the raceland ones, you don't regret it. Btw, many people use 4-2-1 raceland manifolds or air boxes on their VTRs, must have a reason to do so

Thanks mate! Yer my bros got the Gaz ones on his GTI, but im on budget.
I've heard Racelands are really bad but surely better then putting 60mm springs on standard shocks?
    Thanks

There was a lot of head scratching on how they went together, but if you do buy them just open up a thread if you do have problems

Nah i am not, i bought my VTS with them already fitted. I could make some pics, but its dark now, so you won't see a lot at all
Since you can buy them on ebay, use the "make offer" option und you can easy save up 10 pounds. Here in germany we pay around 160 euros, what equals to 145 pounds. You look for a bargain, so why spend twice as much cash, if you can have the same performance half way?
As i said, the discussions are always the same, buy brands, be happy, blah blah. You can only support parts that you own or brands your heard they are a must have, but if you talk about Raceland, you always hear they are bad, but you never experience they are.

This actually screams out to me as being an ebay seller now

Any reason why i should be an ebay seller? I can provide photos of my own Saxo using the coilovers, also the registration book where they are printed in. I am not offering him any address, nor give him any discout for coilovers, just a small tipp to save up more cash easily. But i see where this is going to, cause if i would use KW or H&R, all would be fine, noone would ever think about me selling those in any way. I have eperience on driving them for 5.000 miles in 5 months, snowy streets and bumpy autobahns. No damage, no performance loss, thats why i can support them for anyone to get a bargain.

search coilovers or raceland coilovers etc been covered literally 100's of times gets asked weekly, there a waste of money. Theres a thread somewhere that explains there problems. Shows how to modifiy them so there ok, but then all ur left with is the adjustable collar which is made of cheap alloy and can strip/cross thread easily. Might aswell just get a rallye design coilover conversion kit

How did you manage that? I can't see the link between the coilies and your diff? Sorry if I am being thick here, just interested.

probably excessive vibration in the shafts, rattling the diff to bits?

    Agreed

There is a reason other suspension manufacturers charge double the price for thier kit. Better quality products almost always cost more but last longer...as a general principle

Buying cheap stuff is a false economy

Buy a decent set and they will last

You think track cars use raceland suspensions? I would highly doubt it, they use better quality (and more expensive) products....and there is a reason for that

I had raceland on my 1st vts for a while crashy as fuck, handling was maybe a bit better than standard, however the car looked awesomely low.

I seriously couldn't stick the fact it felt like every bone in my body was breaking every time you hit a pot hole, that soon gets boring.
