FML How good are quickshifts?!

  1. #1
Just today fitted a GE quickshift.. i put it on its jack and some bricks (safety first with lowered cars D: ) and it took 5 mins to remove the gear linkage, fit the little quickshift and put it back together.. now my gear changes are smoother, the gear throw is so much shorter! the gear changing time gap must have... noticeably decreased.
its mad what such a silly little piece of metal can do to your whole driving style and quality.
Not once have i crunched the gears shifting quick or struggled getting into reverse as much,

Screw air filters and exhausts, this little thing has probably done more than them to the acceleration on its own.
Best £18 ive spent all year tbh

    Is this all sarcasm?

I dont like the GE quickshifts, i think theyre shit tbh

LOL must be. I would love it of a quick shift could knock half a second off my 0-60 time.

are they that bad? dont they solve the sloppy changes? my VTR is really bad now,

Bill, I found a Powerflex lower engine mount resolved a lot of the sloppy feel from the gearbox. I've driven a quickshift S once and honestly, it was terrible.

Lol i was actually being genuine. and have spoken to people that agree, its properly solved my long throw gear changes and i can shift a lot quicker now

This is just imo tbh, you have your own but its a massive improvment to me

okies sorry dont mean to be lazy or nowt but where can i find these powerflex engine mounts? not to good with these computer things much better with a set of spanners!

I was told the other ones were shit, and hard to fit?

I put a B&M one on my vtr and it was one of the best things i have put on it!!

i have no experience with these B&M ones, any good?

Tbh, as a matter of performance this has been the most noticable, even the raceland branch and straight exhaust didnt do as much in the way of physically notice of change.

what was it that made it shit for you guys?

any links to these things like fitting guides before and after pics and vids?

    Bill.

oh and sorry to hijack thread.

most of the time its only masking the problem, worn linkages, the ball thingie and play in the selector arm roll pin make for some nasty gear changing experiences

Couldn't agree more, Its surprising what a new set of linkages does!

may look into linkages, where can i get some? i want less movement in the linkages... want it to feel like a car, not a macheine

Kam Racing do upgraded gear linkages. I'm thinking of getting a quickshift, Ideally a B&M. I drove my mates Punto with one, and it's without a doubt the nicest car I have changed gear in. Other than an s2000, but that gearbox is enough to make a man jizzum everywhere.

Kam Racing Linkages > CLICK ME.

i got a combrake, its a fucking fail. I want a sachshift. They look the tits and work...
  18. #18
Yeah i'm thinking of getting a B&M tbh...

ive used this one for 2 years.just thread locked the grub screws.think its great.

however its for sale as im goin sachshift

  20. #20
B&m is the only one id consider ive had loads tbh but the best difference by far is a new roll pin and some new standard linkages

Im looking into a satchshifter next

Main thing with any shift problems is the roll pin
and people slamming changes wrecking syncros and in this case a quickshift will make it worse
The ge is possibly one of the worst ones out there though

I like the TAS/compbrake/GMC one. My linkages are all in good condition, no looseness in the shifting there. I dont have it adjusted a lot, just a bit; my mate had his adjusted so low that - as Alex said - he was constantly annihilating synchros.

New linkages, control arm, roll pin and spacer will make more difference. I fitted all of these with a gmc quickshift and the result is awesome, i wrote a guide that i cba to find as im on my fone if anyones interested.

Compbrake quikshifts are SHIT. Shocking design
  25. #25
The B&M has to be one of the best designed out there currently. Its not too extreme and looks very nice. I might make a similar kit next year but with a few improvements.

We've had no issues with the Baker BM quickshift as it simply extends the pivot arm in the enginebay. Can't say I'm overly fond of the compbrake design and the many copies as I dont like the grub screws to hold the lever in position. Most people forget to loctite these in place before use.

Most people get the 'fix' they are looking for from changing the gear rods to new or uprated ones.

We hold lots of Satchshift kits in stock. Not everyones cup of tea as they need a hole cutting in the bulkhead but they are more focused on motorsport use really. The idea is to allow a precise gearchange but your foot and hand movement still need to be co-ordinated and slow enough to allow for the gearbox sychros to mesh together in their own time rather than forcing them..

Ive used a few best one ive used is definatly the satchshift i loved it, and not keen on the compbrake/GE ones id rather have a perfect standard system
