Vts on HT leads and external coil pack...

  1. #1
Ive been probing about asking what Ht leads fit best on a vts engine and which coilpack is a direct fit.

I assume this will be a common question so thought id collate peoples setups and suggestions...

Feel free to correct info or make other suggestions...

For coilpack I understand that you can use the MSD units but they are pricey and not direct fitment? anyone with prices or links please post!

Ive been told that the VTR external coilpack works and I assume direct fitment as its from a saxo!?

also been told that Duratek & Vauxhall 16v coilpacks work/fit, anyone know which exact car these are from and if direct fitment?

    for leads

I would like to run the 8.5mm Silicone leads by Magnacore but unsure what cars setup I need to buy so that the lengths are correct with external coilpack located just to the Right Hand Side of the engine block?

Ive heard Corsa leads are a good fit and also duratek leads but unsure on exact engine variation.

Cheers for any help/suggestions for best setup!

If anyone has info on VTR setup info feel free to post also as im sure that will be usefull for other people at a later date

cheers for your input bud il look into it! would be easier buying an xsi magnacore lead set and std coilpack!

Anyone got an aftermarket setup with exact engine type?

realistically anything can be made to work but if you want plug and play its got to be the rallye/xsi stuff. peugeot didnt switch over to the concealed push on coil pack until much later than citroen as its generally a better system to work with and fault find. as long as its generally well looked after.

old black top vtr coil pack works with corsa leads.
or the old clio 1.2 coil pack.

As you know lippy on the 16v im using Vauxhall leads, and a standard 8v 106/saxo coilpack, but have had to make a bracket up for it as it doesnt have one standard.

On the 8v's (vtr) and old setup from the early 8v's would fit perfect, using the ht leads and coil pack, im unsure if the bracket is still on the later 8v's if not just get it from the early ones.

if anyone needs a coil and bracket, ive got a pair here

Ford zetec pack and leads. Not 100% plug and play as a little fiddling is needed, but only swapping the plug over and cutting the lead ends down so they fit inside the head.

I'm using Magnecor KV85 leads for a MK1 Focus RS (part number 45298) with an MSD 8241 Coil Pack (oe replacement for the focus coil) on my 16v lump.

As others said, you need to make a suitable bracket to hold the coil.

the Rallye HT leads from a 8v aint longer enough to fit inside the 16v head. Its a different setup

in which way arnt they long enough? i ran my 16v xsi for 2 years on what i thought were rallye leads, as i removed them from my rallye? unless theres differences between the rallye and xsi leads?

iv heard about the black top vtr coilpacks with corsa 1.2 ht's just to 2nd that. not too sure on install but works.

What's the advantages of using an external coil pack anything or just for the look ?
  15. #15
reliability, 16v coilpacks are crap, they constantly crack/break due to being on top of the engine getting all the heat.
    8v packs last forever lol

I`m sure i`ve seen engine dress up kits on ebay, which is basically silicone tubing that fits over the leads.Seen them in different colours as well.

if its on the VTR any leads from an older 8v eg 106 Rallye/XSi will do, just find some fancy ones

I like Steff's leads on the picture
