Problem after head gasket change

  1. #1
Ive just change the head gasket on my car, i had the head skimmed and test and had a new valve put in.

i change the cam belt with a new kit but now the car seems to be juddering/hunting on idle it rev up fine. But taps quite a bit when revs come down??

i was thinking maybe the timing is like a tooth out on the belt???

    any ideas??

If it was a tooth out, u'd see/feel a lack of power, have you used a feeler gauge on the tappets and adjusted to spec?

Sounds like you need to adjust your tappets and its possibly one tooth out too.

its no a random head it the same as i took off, will i need to check tappet gap, will the engine still turn freely having a tooth out

As you've had new valves put in, yes, check every tappet with the feeler gauage and adjust to spec, will tell you what mm for inlet and exhuast valves in the haynes manual, as for the belt being a tooth out, after u've adjusted the tappets, give it a slight rev, you should feel the power delivery stright away, if your cam timing was out, you would have a knackered engine by now

    It's a VTS I assume?

If so, they're hydraulic tappets and adjust themselves. They can't be altered manually.

Sounds more like timing is out to me.

nah its VTR, i never changed the my profile lol

will try the feeler gauge on tappets... is it inlet 0.2mm and exhaust 0.4mm??

But how would this explain the juddering??

Then ignore the fuck what I said

Are these the right tappet settings

"valve clearances are- 0.20mm for all the inlet valves and 0.40mm for the exhaust valves
