Frantic Ticking from Glovebox

  1. #1
    Hey everyone,

Got another problem... Whenever I press the brake pedal or put her in reverse I get this frantic ticking noise coming from the fuse box. It sounds like the indicators but twice as fast!

    Any ideas?

    bulb gone or relay

I've checked all the bulbs and replaced the dead headlight. Still getting the ticking. Is it ok to drive the car when it's making this noise?

How do I check which relay it is?

Its just the relay working, to be honest, quesiton it when you cant hear it

just an overly loud relay, cheap ones do it, wouldnt say worry

Mine did it a few months ago when I reversed off my drive every morning but it's stopped now the weather has warmed up lol strange

I had this problem with my old saxo last year,
like as said up top ^^^ check your fuses & relay boxes

fuses and bulbs don't make "clicking" noises, this is 100% a relay (the noise you can hear is the mechanical switch inside throwing as the coil energises and discharges). If the relay is switching on and off frantically it is either due to an electrical fault on the associated circuit (short circuit, bad earth etc.) or the relay needs replacing. Find out which relay it is then got to Halfords or Maplins and buy a replacement for ~£2-3. If that doesn't solve the clicking then you know to check the wiring.

Tip:- if replacing the relay doesn't fix the problem and you want to isolate the electronics to identify which circuit is to blame, then you can pull fuses until the noise stops. the circuit associated with the fuse you pull last that makes the clicking stop is the one at fault.

Had this a while back, but it didn't seem to interfere with driving the car tbh

wow thank you so much guys! =]

It does the ticking noise constantly now. Using an indicator used to stop it.

I will go to Halfords on my lunch break.

found out what the cause of this ANNOYING ticking. It's the indicator relay. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap one from? Halfrauds quoted me £11ish. Is that cheap?

I bought one from ECP last year for £8 so £11 isnt too bad.

Local breakers. Be tons of 106's and saxos. If you're honest, it shouldn't cost more than a quid.

just pocket some from a scrappy i did, still didnt sort the annoyin tickin noise out tho, its the stalk thats knackered on mine found out. might be worth checking it

OK It wasn't the indicator relay... replaced it with a new one and I still get the ticking noise constantly. So I've now bought an indicator stalk off a member here. This is the next thing it could be. I'll keep you posted! =]

I have the same problem its the stalk is nackered

typical stalk. I would put my money on excess humidity. Leave a humidity absorber in for a few nights, and point a hair dryer towards your stalk for a few minutes.

I lost count of how many times I solved the problem by doing that on saxos and 106s. You will find it always happens during winter (as the sun gets real low), especially if your car is parked in the shade for long periods of time.

I can't get a hair dryer down to my car though cos i live above a shop. =/ It started doing it in that hot weather we had.

it's actually easier on a 106, you just need to point the blower towards the stalk for a few days... Try parking your car in the sunshine and leave a humidity absorber in there.

That was happening to me last year but I jus ignored it because there didn't seem like there was anything mechanically wrong then it just stoped and hasn't come back
