Had my saxo just over a year now, the clutch has now started to play up big time, pedal is really high and is difficult to engage gears, the clutch only slips after 2-3 miles of driving, the clutch cable doesn't need replaced or adjusted as it has been replaced and regardless of how it's adjusted the clutch is still the same. Anyways, kinda beatin about the bush here, the car is approx 180bhp, running 7psi from a rotrex c30-74 charger kit fitted by gmc, at the time of fitting (late 2005) a helix 4 plate paddle clutch fitted, done maybe 15-20k on the clutch and hasn't been thrashed by any means, occasional heavy right foot to clear the cob webs. I haven't bothered to remove the box as yet, really looking for advice on what clutch to use or ways of re-using the paddle clutch, with previous 106 and saxo clutches i've had the thrust bearing wearing away at the pressure plate and actually going through the splines, not sure if the helix pressure plate would have same issue over time but i'm guessing the pressure plate would go before the clutch. I have a standard valeo clutch kit sitting although not sure if it would take the power?? Any1 had issues with a helix clutch before?? Had the car sitting in my garage the past 5-6 months and I can't decide wither to try sell it in need of a clutch or repair it and use it during the summer so I seek advice

#2Thought the valeo clutch was good for 200 break anyway? I'd just fit that, if aint going to get ragged should be ok.

#3Valeo dude.
go for it, good clutches -
#4the standard valeo clutch will not be anygood, with that sort of torque,
guessing ur around the 170ftib,
i imagine the pressure plate is fine u have just worn the clutch plate out, get a new one, or have the old one re plated. -
#5I didn't think the valeo would be up to the job although I stand to be corrected, gonna phone GMC and see what sort of price a new clutch plate is or the cost of re plating the fecked 1. Might take the box off this wknd and have a look. Any alternative to a paddle, perhaps an organic? paddle is a nightmare for junctions and roundabouts and as it will most likely be used as a day 2 day car in good weather I would rather make life as easy as possible.

#6valeo wont do, not much material on paddle plates, must be worn, search for cg motorsport, re lined my helix 4 paddle plate for £60 last week, plus 8.50 postage back
-
#7At the moment without having the clutch removed I think your spot on in saying it's the clutch plate being worn out, I'm gonna try get the box off this wknd if I have the time. Just gonna save any issues and have the helix plate re done, don't intend on giving the car a hard time anyways so it should last me a while. Cheers for the info on the re platin blackie

#8was on phone prvious so coouldnt elaborate much, but as said theres not much friction material on a paddle plate, so its 99% gonna b a worn plate, if the bearig or fingers were fucked you'd know about it and it wouldnt be driveable
some pics below of my clutch as it was then what i received back, posted it tues evening first class, they received it wed morn, blasted & re lined it, i received it back thursday
th email for the sie is on the box

#9For 60 quid thats pretty damm good service. had a busy weekend so never took the box off but should get round to it this week at some point then just a case of gettin an m.o.t booked and a new tax disc n its time for chatter chatter

#10Just fit the valeo ive got 186 hp running through mine its fine ryans got near 200 dannygti will have just over 200 youll bevfine
-
#11lol at using a valeo clutch on a boosted sax. Good luck with that is all I can say.
Get another helix, they're expensive but they do the job. 5 years is a long time to have one fitted on a car pushing double the power it was meant to have. -
#12agree with maddison tbh, and im pretty sure danny is changing his clutch..... in fact im sure he will be, no way will a valeo take his power
-
#13lol alex dont be silly.. ill have around 100lb ft more torque than you... a standard clutch is pretty much on its limit with your engine.Quote:Just fit the valeo ive got 186 hp running through mine its fine ryans got near 200 dannygti will have just over 200 youll bevfine
ill be using a paddle clutch with uprated pressure plate.
oh, and to the original poster.
IM almost certain if you have gear engaugment isssues and its not the cable OR the clutch arm on top of the box bending then it WILL be the clutch fork inside the box that has bent. this happened to me, and before i knew it the fork had snapped and left me stranded in a foreign country. -
#14Its torque that kills the clutch not BHP. Which is why boosted cars are harder on the transmission.Quote:Thought the valeo clutch was good for 200 break anyway? I'd just fit that, if aint going to get ragged should be ok.

#15160hp here valeo clutch driven like i stole it once or twice a month. i have sticky track tyres and a quaife diff. no clutch issues yet.
-
#16I got schooled
-
#17thats because its n/a. you'll have what? 120lbs torque? No suprise that a valeo clutch can handle that as its only very mildly modified. Boosted cars have aggresive increases in torque that will make a valeo clutch slip. People don't spend £500 on a clutch for the sh1ts and giggles of it!Quote:160hp here valeo clutch driven like i stole it once or twice a month. i have sticky track tyres and a quaife diff. no clutch issues yet.
as Ryan said, bhp is nothing its torque that kills a clutch. Look at performance clutches and they will give you the torque output they are rated for, not the bhp. -
#18My point wat that they are fine for 160hp
-
#19yes for an n/a car. the thread is about a boosted sax which would kill a valeo clutch the first time it was used!
-
#20not as bad on a s/c car as a turbo car as the power/torque increase is progressive rather then a big burst, but still none the less the torque is too much as previousley stated
alex's 186bhp and the OP's 180bhp are none comparible as alex's car will hav damatically less torque
