Hi, I've been thinking for awhile, I want big power increase, I believe I have choice of vtr engine then turbo, or VTS engine, ive been told the civic type r engines fit in saxo's swell. What's everyones thoughts/ideas

    Thanks

What civic type r engine there are a few b16,b18,k20? fitting any will be a pain in the arse but much more tunable.

All depends on how much time and how much money you have and how much work your willing to put into it.

Personally i would go vts/gti lump and charge or turbo it.

You'll need deeeep pockets to get a K20 CTR engine in a Saxo. The cost of the engine alone you're looking at an easy £1,200 - then add on the cost of management, fuelling, custom fab work, etc.

You'd be best off going 16v and turboing it.

I've been told that a type r engine will fit with two different engine mounts. My mate has a vtr turbo. Cost him bout £2000 all in. VTS have the head gasket problems though. Just want easy quick performance!

Easy quick, sell furio & buy a Vts.

New one to me. Never known anyone with hg issues, it's not a k series.

Quick and easy performance isnt fitting an engine from another marque either. Not when you then have driveshafts and wiring to sort amongst other things.

Seems like you have been given alot of duff info mate

As said cheapest and best option is to start with a vts engine and go from there

When you say you want big power increase what are you looking at? Would cost alot more to drop a k20 lump in than vts your car and supercharge/turbo it! Loads to think about, its not a straight fit!

vts engine, full rebuild with forged internals then either turbo or supercharged route = big power increase,

or do the honda civic type r engine conversion in the boot then equip it with a supercharger almost have an arial atom then....

seen a 27 litre Rolls Royce fitted into a Rover saloon if you want real power, but no way a straight fit. Question is how much are you prepared to spend, how much power do you need and most importantly, are you able to sort out the bullshit pub/internet merchants from the people who have done the conversions before?

Big power increase from a 1.4 is asking for trouble, work your way up mate. Buy a VTS and wiat till you need more from that, then turbo/supercharge it.

i hope so thats my plan over next year hopefully

if you are doing it properly then i wouldnt say turbocharging one is easier than the other.

Bear in mind with engine conversions - ie type r - you not only have to make the engine fit, you need to think of driveshafts that mate the saxo hubs and the Honda box, the management to run it, custom mounts, driveshaft height - too high or low will cause problems - then there is the extra weight over the front which wont help weight distribution - the list goes on and on.

Id buy a VTS, with decent breathing mods alone they are very capeable cars and a huge jump from a 1.4

Hi, after few thoughts think I'm gonna go for VTS engine, what else would I need? And to change?
  19. #19
Pop that into a the search function mate, that is probably the most frequently asked question on here.

If it was me id sell and just buy a VTS - then you will have VTS spec everything, brakes, suspension, interior etc - unless all of that you have already upgraded on yours.

insurance may be a problem for a vts for him....

but yea i back you mate get a vts engine with breathing mods, or if you fancy doing the turbo conversion you will have quite a powerful car.

insurance on a car with an engine conversion isnt exactly happy times, and besides, if you buy a vts rather than doing a conversion, there will be more insurance companies that will actually cover you!
