i know theres not a huge difference, but soonish i will be getting a vts gear box fitted on my furio as mines starting to go, and i was wondering if i kept my furio engine and put a fast road cam and remap it will it be the same as putting a cam in a vtr remaped?
difference between 1.4 and vtr

#2No it will not be the same as a cammed VTR if thats what you are asking?
VTR mk2 is 25bhp more so even camming a furio, I doubt it will gain that much
Against a Cammed VTR it has no chance -
#3What you want is a 1.1 box tbh.
-
#4was told a vts box has better gear ratio and you wont lose the top end like you would on a 1.1 box?
so it will be pointless camming a furio? just thought it would save me putting a vtr engine in my car. because the vtr is only slightly faster than a furio -
#5Don't read 0-60 times for an idea of speed.Quote:was told a vts box has better gear ratio and you wont lose the top end like you would on a 1.1 box?

But yes, it would be pointless, not costworthy if that makes sense. -
#6so what gearbox should i get then?
-
#8well iv looked on ebay and you can pick up vts boxes for around 145 2nd hand. not much dearer than 1.1 boxes. whats the benifits from each box?

#9Iirc vts box has similar ratios and final drive as a 1.1 box, but stronger diff and a 'sports' cluster so the revs dont drop out of the power when shifting at high revs. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
In order of acceleration to top speed, the standard boxes go: s1 rallye, 1.4 Xsi, 1.1, s2 rallye, 1.6 Xsi, vts, vtr iirc. Again im sure one of the more major members will correct me if ive made a mistake. I cant remember where the diesel box goes but its toward the vtr end (crap) -
#10been searching and everyone seems to have different opinions. the 1.4 box has very short gear ratios from what i can tell driving it. need to get it in 3rd gear to hit 60. without screaming the guts out of it
-
#11I have a VTR box in my Furio and you can't really tell much difference from the VTR and the Furio boxes, just slightly slower off the line, after 1st gear it flies though, can pick up a dcent VTR box on the for sale section for around £50-80

#12Depending on your dont be fooled into thinking all 1.4 boxes are the same, furio, west boxes are basically the same as vtr ones.
Also iirc a vtr wont do 60 in second with a standard rev limit on any box. The 1.4 Xsi box will do 63 at 7.8k iirc -

#14My bad, turns out it will if your on 14s lol

#15hmmm so a standard vtr box will pull away quicker than a vts box? confusing lol
