ive been told its better to get a uprated panel filter instead of an induction kit for my vts apparently an induction kits jus a heat soak as its close to the manifold unless you re locate it is this true??

Pretty much spot on, open filters just suck in hot air. Best options are panel filter in standard air box, or enclosed filters such as BMC CDA.

oh damn lol ive jus bought a k and n open filter cause it was cheap it has got quite a long pipe wot brings it down the the front slam panel though....

It'll make a decent noise, but it won't help the performance. If anything the car will just drink more fuel lol.

i might have mis understood what i've read but if its being fed cool air from the front panel it should be ok.

as i understood it the problem only arises if you leave it open and it pulls in hot air from the engine bay ?

My only beef with the standard intake system is the length on the pipework and the ribbed bends. If they weren't there and the system length was shorter it would probably be the perfect intake.

Down near the front would be the best place to mount it, however an open filter will get hot wherever it is mounted, hence the need for an enclosed filter

    Dont worry about it.
Rather a lot of air flows through an engine bay when a car is moving

If your budget doesn't stretch to the cost of a BMC CDA, a good alternative would be the Raceland kit (or similar).

    It looks like this:

The filter is enclosed in the large intake, nice large amount of cool air gets forced in, and the filter keeps cool.

Best panel filters are from Green and BMC. They are hand made so theres no seepage of the plastic surround into the cotton so there is maximum possible filtration area
