    Silver top is what it says, a Silver top (Rocker Cover) and black top is a Black Rocker Cover.

    Black top is MK1 up to late 1999 and Silver top is MK2 from late 1999 on...

    VTS's have always been the same.

    Black top VTR's have 90hp and silver tops have 98hp.

    However you have the crossover Engines from 1999-2000 which can differ on tops and power, also the looms are different, Black tops are Single plugs and Silver tops are 3 plugs, but the crossovers are different again.

    not all silvertops are 98bhp i had a silvertop 90bhp engine

    silver/black tops can be used to descirbe any 8v engine, 16v engine look completely different

    Blacktop 90bhp 96-98 Single plug
    Silvertop 90bhp 98-00 Single plug
    Silvertop 98bhp is 00/01+ 3 plug

    Difference between silver and blacktops are roller rockers, coilpacks, port spacings are different and something else i've forgot lol.
