As title says guys just purchased one and having trouble finding some where suitable to fit it to.
Where have you fitted your brackets too.
This I's for 16 valve engine bays.
    Thanks

Means relocating battery but thats allways a good thing
  3. #3
Ye that's perfect place for it matey but don't want to move the battery lol.
Mines not quite as big as yours neither.
  4. #4
take the plate off that holds the battery in place and then put your bracket in there and battery plate back on top.
Will get pic shortly and post it up

Mines not exactly massive and battery relocation is great

Didn't mean massive just mean mine is a bit smaller and it's not the square one it's more if the oval type one.
Where would be the best place to install it without moving the battery.
Also noticed a few have relocated there battery into the boot but what is the benefit of this as I've never known lol.

to help even out the weight a bit when the back seats are taken out m8

O right I see cheers mate.
Mines not stripped so won't be going down the road of relocating battery.

Won't be able to put mine there due to the air filter.
  15. #15
What air filter set up do you have currently?
  16. #16
Mine is on an 8v, but hopefully it will give you an idea

Its not actually to even the weight of the seats not being there its to even the corner weights
Ideally a car needs 25% of its weight on each corner giving equal grip on each tyre
However this is allmost impossible in a fwd car with the engine offset so weight is needed in the rear left corner
I still have rear seats but a.lot of things are shifted
My battery amd washer bottle are in the boot my rear seats are still in i have my seats sat lower and the back of my shoulders actually is level with the b pillar due to my dished wheel along with sound deadening ect removed from the fron a lightweight fan setup and ive got a fibreglass bonnet in the works it all adds up to trying to counteract the weight of the engine

Slightly in depth off topic reply but hopefully cleared things up for you all

    you are correct sir

Look's like you have quite a kink in the clear pipe - isn't that going to hamper the engine breathing?

yes dont want a kink like that really.

best place when keeping the battery is in front of the battery, make a little angle bracket, and bolt to the battery tray.
  20. #20
Ik guys heres a pic of how i did have it set up but after installing it there i knew it was not the place for it due to the heat from the engine, manifold etc.
Any ideas where it will go with my set up ie air filter etc.
    Thanks?

That's the type of bracket I could do with as the one that came with it is not too clever.

It's a combination of the bracket that was already on the car, and the one that came with the catch tank.

Quite an old picture that, tank is in the same place but managed to sort out the kink.

Something a lot of people are overlooking

The hose needs to be at a gradual downward slope so the vapours condensing (they will start to condense in the pipe as its clder than the engine) run down into the tank not back into the rocker

Also having a low point below the tank entrance will allow this to pool blocking the hose and then filling this rather than the tank
  25. #25
Oh and you need acess to empty it so wedging it in a tiny gap where fitting/removing is fiddly isnt ideal either as you wouldnt be able to get at the drain plug
  26. #26
Why not just plumb it in to your induction pipe the most other kits?
  27. #27
    Just fitted mine....

It does not have to go downwards. oil travelling back into the head wont do any harm obviously, and will also mean that the engine is still able to breath but the tank isn't filling up with you engine oil every other week. So win win. The u bend can be a big problem if it fills the pipe. although it should still bubble through if it has to.

Debatable issue this one. Many will say about how it prevents oil covering the insides of the inlet and can be un-metered fuel added to the charge. But on the other hand this oil residue can help keep the valve seats lubricated and clean, along with the back of the valve. It can also help in keeping the rings sealed on a freshly rebuilt engine

i made mine out of some old scaffold pipe at work with 2 airline fittings and a valve for draining at the bottom filled it with wire wool welded it up had it powdercoated black a few monster stickers makes it look like a monster energy can. The big aluminium ones are overated cheaper ones are fine and do the same job "condencing oil and water vapor".

i just wish id had time to redo my brakes so my bay was tidier
  33. #33
Thinking I may have to get another bracket made up as the one I have is not giving me really any where ideal to fit it.

Going off topic here but how come you don't have an ecu or a cooling fan.
Is it something to do with the bodies.
    Sorry to sound stupid lol.

Its because ive gone to massive lengths tidying/hiding everything in the bay ideally id like wiring and everything hidden

Ecu is under the dash thanks to a custom wiring loom and fan is a rear mounted pacet 12 one the wiring and relays for the fan is hidden and so is a lot more like headlight wiring ect
  36. #36
Sounds like you've done a lot to the 106.
I'm ordering my cams next month and then eventually going to the road of getting bodies for it like you've done.
Not too clued up on the bodies, still learning more about them but suppose you will no alot more about them with you having them.
May need some advice from you on these.
    Thanks
  37. #37
erm yea thats one way to put it
  38. #38
you'll need to take the battery cover off yours. Im using the bracket that came with the catch tank (just an ebay special). I also routed the tank back into my induction. Take the plate off put the bracket on then the plate back on top. The holes match up so just put the bolt through them both. This then means because of the angle of the braket you can only put one screw into the tank but it holds well enough.

    Here's mine

  39. #39
Cheers mate that's the exact same catch tank as mine, same colour too lol.
Have you just got 1 screw from the bracket going to the tank, just wanted to make sure if it still holds properly if there's just 1 screw to it?
    Thanks again.
  40. #40
yeah because the bracket has been flipped over you can only do one screw. Holds it fine though.

Cheers for that mate exactly where I'm going to put mine.
    Much appreciated matey.
  42. #42
if you put it there you might need some vaccum hose to reach.

    http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=1...um+hose&_rdc=1

16mm id vacuum hose. Same size as the breather hose on the VTS/GTI.

Perfect fit for the catch tank as well.

Cheers mate you've been a great help.
Will get some of that looks better than the crappy one that comes with it and then I can feed one from the tank to the air filter sane as you.
  44. #44
Ok guys finally got this sorted thanks to Psycho18.
Installed the catch tank in the same place as psycho18 suggested and it fits perfect and is fixed pretty safe.
Only down side I had to take some of the battery cover off so just got the top cover on now but hey ho lol.
