Beginner tuner/What mods?

  1. #1
Soon I am going to buy a VTR, just want to know what mods I could fit that won't be too expensive, improve performance enough to be noticed and won't rocket my insurance up to £45894850489059480 a year.

I read the all you need to know post but it's quite technical and I'm new to the car/tuning game lol

I looked at remapping, isit worth £235?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Breathing mods are usually best if you're keeping it to a minimum. Induction kit and Exhaust, then if you want more Manifold. I wouldn't bother getting it remapped with just that though personally.

i wouldnt get it remapped unless you get it cammed

K scratch the remap, just a friend of mine remapped his 1.4 diesel lupo, said it was well worth it. But if you lot are saying there is no point, I won't .

Gonna re-read the all you need to know thread to better understand induction/exhaust etc.

    Lightened flywheel, shorter gearbox

Right, what about cold air intake/new panel filter/air filter? Are they hard to fit? Considering I don't know my way around an engine, but I am quite able minded in the sense if there was a tutorial I could follow it lool

I would put a panel filter or enclosed induction kit on.

And diesels always give better gains that petrols. That's why your man noticed a big difference.

decat eshaust and air filter first

decat - 2 bolts that hold the center section from the down pipe and 2 that attach center to back box really easy the whole thing is held up by rubbers that slide on and off the

air filter - is just a couple of jubilee clips really screwdriver job dead easy

with these mods you wont see a massive gain but will be a bit more responsive and sound alot better just remember that its all about getting cold air to the engine so a cheap cone filter like most new modders get will probably sap power as it will suck in all the hot air from the engine bay if you want a good one get an enclosed panel filter with the cold air feed these will just replace the parts you have really easy job

dont know where you are but im in darley dale nr chesterfield if your near me you more than welcome to ome round and ill show you how to do it all matey

This. You can spend big money chasing fairly small power gains, this will make better use of the power thats already there, making a noticable difference.
Personally id fit a exhaust anf air filter too but don't expect it to turn your car into a m3

I don't expect 350bhp lol. Just wanna up it a little bit, I'm thinking cold air intake/panel filter. The air filter on the top of the engine is that replaced by the cold air intake? If not, I'll change that filter to make sure it isn't all clogged up. Decat it, sort something on the exhaust then leave it at that whilst I respray it/retrim/new rims/ICE etc, then carry on with performance. Gonna be all about learning this car I reckon, then once I've racked up some NCB, buy a 2005 VTS and start on that lol
