Help with Cam belt change please!!!!

OK so its been a while since i was shown how to do this but the general idea is line up the timing marks and lock the cam and crankshafts, remove and replace belt, adjust for correct tension, put everything back together, Basically

However as im awaiting the belt turning up i thought id get the engine ready so i cracked on but fook me i cant get the timing marks lined up, i'll explain

moved the crankshaft until the hole on the camshaft was at about 2 o'clock (right place), but the groove on the crank wasn't there, so turned the cam a full 360 degrees, found a groove on the crank. Winner!

BUT the problem is that i can either lock the camshaft OR the crankshaft not both???

    Can anyone be of assistance???

    could of pics:

This pic shows the position of the camshaft when the crank is locked in place.

And this is when the camshaft is locked, the groove on the flywheel is just out of reach.

This has led me to think that maybe the belt has jumped a tooth or two?

    Thanks for reading

8?mm alan key through the top hole on the block, that's TDC then look at your cam, if that's not lined up ( use a drill bit in the hole) then the cam timing will be out, belt off, time up again, turn crank twice to ensure there's no contact etc .

keep turning gamshaft until you can push a screwdriver through the crank timing hole

it takes a fair few turns on the crank for one revolution of the flywheel.

When i recently did my cambelt the two marks didn't line up, it was about 6deg out ether end, everything is sweet tho.

cool cheers guys thats what i was thinking, just wanted to make sure that if im making any slight adjustments, its the cam shaft i need to lock in place and adjust the crank. Not the other way round.

It was a secret question that i hoped would be pointed out in someones answer.

You're sticking it in the wrong hole! As said above, the timing locking hole is the small one above the big one. Stick a 5mm allen key in to lock it.

Aye winner! To clarify i have circled the hole i have put a 10MM bolt in

Right, when the camshaft is lined up and the 10mm nut is in. This happens

where i can't get the 6MM drill bit in.

It has either slipped a couple of teeth having not been tensioned right or some idiot has fucked it up before and not locked the crankshaft.

I see nothing locking the crank down, it's the hole to the left of the big hole above it, lock the crank first, then look at the cam, then as i said, if iyt's not lined up, belt off, re time

edit: and yes that's where you lock the cam

    Aye this one:

It was convinient that the groove was visible through the large hole so i took a pics to show how slightly out it was.

That's it! The two holes that you have ringed are the ones to use. The crank one isn't very obvious and it's a very precise fit for the 5mm allen key that I always use to lock mine.

Tell me about it, it was covered in crap. Missed it the first couple of times looking for it.

Why dont they make things more obvious? LOL
