Weird rattling sound =S

My saxo VTR has developed a strange rattling sound when accelerating. The noise is not there when the car is in neutral (or in reverse bizzarely) but it's really irritating, and sounds like it could be damaging to the engine...

I have no idea what it could be, but like I said it's a kind of rattly/tappety noise but only when the clutch is up and I am accelerating in a forward gear, but it's only started this weekend.

I have changed the oil this weekend too, but it's still doing it, any help or suggestions of a possible diagnosis would be greatly appreciated! =D thanks guys!

Don’t know for sure but could it be the heat shield or the exhaust ratteling on the bottom of the car???

yup, quite possibly, Your better popping this thread in the problems sections mate, you'll have some more responses....

Just to take the worry off your mind, Is it like a cackly rattle sound? Almost like some sort of loose chain, only when you accelelate? If so then i have the same thing, Im not too worried im sure its just the heat shield or exhaust mate.

Check your inner driveshaft boots mate , If they split and leak fluid the noise can be terrible

Well it's definately not the heat shield, and im not sure how to check the inner driveshaft boots?

could be one of a number of things, you need to go to a garage really. any diagnosis from here based on what youve said will be guesses and probably nowhere near what it is.

I think i know what you're on about...is it more noticeable when you put your foot down?

I got told mine could be my thrust/release bearing. could be gone or on it's way out but mine's been like that for ages and i still haven't sorted it :/
