Catch tank, creating your own out of a monster energy can?

  1. #1
Bought an induction kit for the new VTS engine (enclosed dont worry ) and it doesnt have the inlet for the gasses from the rocker cover...which is what i want anyways , bought a breather for it...but then remembered it will most likely piss oil everywhere (Right?). so i want a catch tank, looked at buying one and yes, cheap as...but then a friend suggested monster energy can and i likey!!

So! i was thinking, hole in the side with somthing to clamp a pipe onto brass fitting and a hole ontop to stick the breather filter too....but then the brass fitting on the side witll crush the can...and the top needs to be removeable for emptying.

So plan two, i need to cut the top off and create a removeable top that will have two angled brass fittings for piping and breather...so one of these tops on a monster can :

Any help before i just give up and buy a catch tank? Ha!

Buy a catch tank and then cut the Monster can to wrap around it?
More hassle than it's worth making one from an actual can tbh!

This is what most people do to do it properly. When I've seen actual cans used it just been temporary with a hose going into the hole in the can

I think this will be interesting to see actually, aslong as a good job is done and it doesnt look like its been cut by a chainsaw, when you done it post sum pics up, a step by step would be good too

I've just bought an alloy one, I wouldn't bother with the ones shown in your picture as they weigh a tonne - had one on my old car because it was something like £3 cheaper!..now I'm glad I paid the extra.

The one pictured below was £36 delivery and I was v impressed!
    Anyway here's the ebay link

I did it with a relentless can, didnt mess about cutting holes etc just stuck breather pipe in the normal hole in top of can and tie wrapped can to something. Then it got thrown away by accident so now i just have a breather to atmosphere pointing down behind the engine lol

After I switched to JP4 cam covers I just used a fruit shoot bottle, Cut a hole in the side and shoved the pipe in.
Completely forgot I did it and passed MOT

Still dry in there so not like you're going to need to be taking it off all the time.

I would just buy a catch tank to be honest, i can see how you want to be different but its just not going to ever be as professional as the proper thing.

Ooo so i could just leave the breather filter jammed on there then?

Its proving difficult to overcome the flimsyness of the can itself to be honest! Plus if im not careful it will become covered in dings! Which is not what i want. Il give it another think though! May turn to the idea of a tap on the bottom, but then its getting a bit silly ha.

Why not just buy a black catch tank and get a Monster sticker?

Im using a NO FEAR energy drink tin, its perfect!. You can fit the oil hose straight into the removable plastic open/close bung in that particular drink can!. It's cool looking and cheap too, and you can still empty it if fills with oil gunge as the breather pipe simply pulls out of the top.
