VTR to 1400 conversion.. yep I've wrote it correctly :)

    I'm considering converting my VTR to a 1400 mainly to drop me into a lower class for sprinting oh and save a few quid on tax!

    Has anyone done this and what would be the best 1400 engine to use?

    any help appreciated

    why not go for a 1300 peugeot 106 rallye engine

    The 1.4 AX GTI and 1.4 106 XSI are the most powerful out of the 8v 1.4 TU. They are also extremely tunable. Though they look just like the early VTR engines as there essentially the same just with a smaller more and stroke.

    The later 3 plug 1.4s are the most economical so if your thinking of low running costs that may be the best. That or the 1.4 diesel but then there much slower then the base model 1ltr petrol that are also very fuel efficient.

    More performance would be the plan, at least to that of a standard VTR.. I'm guess you can get more? I would like to go down the 1.4AX GT route with bike carbs but I imagine having problems with emissions!

    Was there a variant of the 106 XSi engine in the Saxo? I may have problems with my class rules as it needs to have been an option in the Saxo range..

    just pass it off as a westy engine, quite similar to look at, but have you checked the rules on modifying the engine, as you may find yourself in contradiction

    Sorry i should have put AX GTI and not GT. The 1.4 106 XSI and AX GTI are both the 100bhp 1.4 TU engine. None of these where in the Saxo. The Saxo only ever had a pants 1.4 fitted. However many classes would let you run a hybrid of a VTR and 1.4. Then you could pritty much make your self a similar spec. What class are you running in? I know a few people who sneak the later engines in 205s a and get away with it in sprints.

    Rules about proving the cc of the engine when changing with the dvla are stricter, to prevent people doing dodgy things to pay less tax

    So make sure you get a full receipt with whatever engine you get, which includes engine number, mileage, cc and any other details like what car it came from, reg etc
