Saxo VTR mk2 Manifold/de-cat/sports cat

  1. #1
hi there, im trying to find either a decent 4-1/4-2-1 manifold or a 4 brancher with sports cat for my mk 2 VTR (02 reg) i am aware that the 4-1/4-2-1 manifolds will de-cat the car so something like the Janspeed manifold with the built in sports cat would be better as less hassle come MOT time, but the cheapest ive found one is £300 on Motorsport World which is a bit pricey. just wondering if anybody knows anywhere that does them cheaper or has one for sale, if not then im guna have to get one of the decat manifolds, something like a Raceland 4-1 or again one that somebody has for sale.

please give me your advice/opinions, thanks in advance.

    ricky.

I'm also looking for help along the exhaust part of the car, I want a new back box and I fail at exhausts lol wondering if this would fit fine on my 1.1 saxo http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/peco-big-bore-...#ht_500wt_1156 and is it over priced, Also have you had a look on ebay for manifolds?

that back box should fit your 1.1 but it looks more like a universal thing and probabaly wouldnt fit that well, probably better off getting one that isspecificaly made for your car mate. i have looked on ebay for manifolds too, thats where i found the raceland 4-1 stainless one for £168 but idealy i want a 4 brancher that has the sports cat built in but no way am i paying 300 for one haha.

To the o.p: Jan speed is your best bet for mani with cat, otherwise, get a performance mani (piper/supersprint/raceland if you must) and use the mk1 setup whereby the cat is under the car, so you can buy a centre piper with sport cat that should be cheaper than the janspeed part

In response to renouf, youd be better off looking at Kam Racing for proper car fitment
Peco is a bit of pay for what you get, a noisy universal part, you're better off with say piper/supersprint/Kam racing
As these are suited to the Saxo more

    Hope this helps

I've just completed doing this on my mk2 vtr.
Bought a mk1 raceland manifold and relocated oil filter to fit it.
Then bought a mk1 decat pipe and a supersprint centre section.
This way at mot time I can buy a mk1 cat that goes under the car and switch between that and decat pipe.

    Hope this helps

    ^
    that's probably your best solution!
    And like poster says
    Just swap at MOT time
Then you can have the decay performance and the cat restrictions for MOT time

so if i was to get a mk1 vtr performance manifold, and the mk 1 vtr underfloor cat and and centre section it would all fit straight to the car and wouldnt need any mods, except the oil filter movement? or are there manifolds that dont require moving the oil filter, and also would this pass emissions as my car is a type approved cat as its after 2001 where as the mk1 vtr wouldnt be or should it just be fine?

    cheers

Some manifolds don't require the oil filter moving
Piper for example is fine, but you pay for that quality!
Raceland requires it moving and supersprint is 'necessary' in that it runs bloody close if you don't move the oil filter

In regards to fitting a cat after the manifold
This should be fine as the cat will still be present in the system
If you're worried make sure you warm the system up before taking it for testing just so the cat is working that bit harder to pass those tests

raceland do a stainless steel one for the mk 2 for 168 quid, so the oil filter doesnt need moving, do you think that the mk 1 underfloor cat and centre section would fit onto this? they should do shouldnt they? pipes will be same length etc? id rather do this than move the oil filter.
  13. #13
If you want a sports cat you have to pay decent money. They are not cheap.
  14. #14
The raceland 4-2-1 is fine, but I've heard bad stories of them not being a good fit
Sort of hit/miss as to whether you'd need to to alter it
For the money save for piper!
Or check the for sale threads when you get 100 posts
As Kam says, sports cat's ain't cheap and that other option will be better for you so you can swap them over!

i think im guna wait till after the MOT and save up abit and get a decent stainless manifold for a mk2, get a piper one, as ive allready got piper stainless cat back system fitted, so should go on perfect, it doesnt bother me swaping it back for next years MOT. as i dont really want to get rid of my piper system so the underfloor cat is a no go. thanks for helping me decide! much appreciated guys!
