Saxo Starts Then Cuts Out Straight Away :(

  1. #1
    Hi Guys

I know this has probably been asked plenty of times but I haven't got time to be looking for the answer /:

So anyway I have a 1.1 mk1 saxo and when I try starting the car in the morning or after its been left for about 8ish hours it starts but then cuts out straight away unless I keep the car revving for a few minutes

Any help to what it could be would be much appreciated

Cheers buddy - had the problem for a while just never looked into it but now its time to sell the car so I'd rather get it sorted than lose out on money

if its anything like mine, it wont be like that - i'm not exactly sure what it is on a mk1 1.1 - i think it might be a little black box on the front of the throttlebody but i dunno - deffo not like the one on that guide though

think the vtr/vts are different to a 1.1 but its on the throttle body of the car, just a little guide on where to look

    here a pic on a 1.1
also idle control stepper motor is the idle control valve , been told different dealers all it different names i.e citroen call it idle control valve and peugeot call it idle control stepper motor , as been told

Bloody torque screws are a nightmare to get out I've had no luck with it
  14. #14
correct me if i am wrong, but is it the black boxy bit with the plug on, on the right in this pic:

    which is this bit:

iv been doing this too, now i just leave it. means i have to sit there for a minute revving the car in the morning before i drive it lol

haha - i realised today, mine is fine to start with, but after about a minute it goes crap, and then once its warm, it gets better again

I don't think so but the screws are in pretty tight /: and the screw was a lil but rusty so think it must have weekend it

be so much easier if citroen used normal spanners instead of torque i wouldnt know what to suggest id leave it for a min, and coat it in wd40 then try again- but not too much that it be impossible to get off

Ah I know its a pain think I'll have to take the cam cover off for easier access to it
  23. #23
    Its confusing.

    It isnt a valve.
It does contain a stepper motor

make sure your using a T20
  26. #26
Got any pics of yours? And yeah I am but I using those stupid ones that you can change for screw driver head etc cause I can't find my actual one
  27. #27
mines same as the one in the first thread i sent, but vts not vtr, not sure about 1.1 though

ahh right , best option for me would be to leave the torque screws atm till you can find the ones that fit abit better mate just incase they round off properly and it be a pain to sort out then
  30. #30
I just found the right one buts its still proving difficult even with the cam cover off so may just let the "pro's" deal with it
  31. #31
for getting the bolts out try mole grips on the head or get one of the easy out type things to pull them out with a drill - if they are properly rounded off

and yeh - i know what you mean - if you watch it when its working, it just adjusts the bit that sticks out
it twists it which in turn pushes on the bit that holds the throttle cable (and therefore increases the revs)
but i dont know how you could rectify the problem - whether the motor is dying or full of crap, or whether there is a dead sensor somewhere that is making the ecu think that it is idling fine or something similar??
