Juddering Saxo

I have a t reg saxo 1998 with 104k on the clock. Had it about a years its been fine. However just latley on start up it runs really rough - it sometimes judders and lurches - feels likes its gonna stall.

I took it to the garage - who changed the air and fuel filters. But then told on examing the old fuel filter that I have picked up some 'bad fuel' - if I wished he could could remove the fuel tank and clean the pipes and this would cure the problem.
I have been driving for over 25 years and have never encounted 'bad fuel' in any vehicle. I don't mind paying £90 for the fuel tank strip - but does this sound feasible ?

Another garage said they couldn't be sure - as the car drives ok when warmed up - it could be the coilpack ? - but the garage I took it to said the coilpack only creates the spark.

or should I just accept @ 104k - its knacxkered and not worth fixing.?

Dont bother wasting your money on the fuel tank strip, the garage is just trying to get money from you imo. just burn out all the bad fuel and avoid filling up from tescos/asda.. they're fuels shiit! use BP, Shell, Texaco ect. Maybe chuck in some redex to clean out your fuel injectors too. And hopefully he replaced your fuel filter with a new one? if not get that done, you could do it yourself. and for the rough idle,

To be fair to the garage they advised exactly that as an alternative. Stuck £50 in from Shell yesterday - how long before I see an improvement ?

Mines on 108k and runs fine (give or take a few niggles sometimes).. If you have the history from previous owners you can work out what needs replacing and whats recently been replaced.. Then from trial and error can work out whats the most likely cause giving the symptoms?

Im pretty sure everything under my bonnet now has been replaced/fixed haha so now if anything goes wrong its only one of a few possible things
