What would be a approximate estimate for a garage to supply & fit a recon engine to a 1.0 litre saxo ?
Replacing 1.0 litre engine

#2get second hand engine will be loads cheaper than a recon one and just ask them to fit it otherwise they will charge more for finding part etc...

#3I am not mechincally minded so bear with me:-Quote:get second hand engine will be loads cheaper than a recon one and just ask them to fit it otherwise they will charge more for finding part etc...
1.How would I go about finding a second hand engine - and ensuring it fits in my 98 saxo
2.Worst case scenario - how much would a recon costs
3.Current engine has 104k on it - how long feasibly could this go on for -
#4Try local scrap yards or look on here for a second hand engine that's being sold.
Current engine having 104k on isn't too bad, if the cam belt has been changed and it's been regularly serviced then it could easily get 120k miles -
#5i had same engine in my old 106 which is the same and i went up to 156k and it was still going i just serviced it loads and looked after it 104 isnt to bad
you can get engines off of ebay and that with low mileage i got one for my mates 206 when i changed that for him and it was £150 and mileage was 42k just look around just make sure it is off of a saxo 1.0 mk1 and make sure it is either mpi or spi (i will get pic up to show you difference)
why you changing the engine neways just down to mileage? -
#6looked on ebay and found this
(this engine is spi)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Citroen-Saxo-P...item4840db83d9
mpi engines have square box at the back of the engine instead of the circle bit -
#7Well I got my saxo for £400 as a little run about (2nd car) - I was only intending to keep it 12 months - but I quite like it - and the parts when things go wrong seem cheap - new clutch for example £210 .......
I was just wondering if the worst came to the worst what sort of bill would I be looking at ? -
#8if its got full service history and been looked after it'll be fine aslong as you keep the maintance up on it. my 1.4 2001 saxo has just shy of 134K fsh and still pulls like a train and i have just stripped the engine and it really doesn't show its miles at all looks alomst new, can still see the honing marks (unless its had engine work done before) but i have no evidince to think it has.
