have the janspeed 4-2-1 with sports cat and wanna know if its ok to wrap the sports cat or weather to leave it un wrapped?

Cats work best hot but (and I'm only assuming here) that they are designed to work in a set temperature range. Heat wrap is going to keep the heat in and might push it above designed limits. Manifolds are generally made of thicker metal than the cats too so I reckon wrapping the cat would cause premature metal fatigue/cracking of it

i say wrap it, emissions will never be an issue again.

anyone else? kinda hit n miss here

heat wrap will not give any noticeable performance gains. its MAINLY to keep bay temps down. the cat is under the saxo unless you own a mk2 which if you do then yes i would wrap the entire manifold+cat as the cat is in the mani. really no point if its under the car.

EDIT: god im blind. didnt read first post id say wrap it dude.

id say...remove the cat. wrap the de-cat pipe.

its mk2 and cat in mani. not de catting it as can;t be arsed to swap for mot's.

so to sum up wrapping the whole lot ain;t gonna damage cat.
this isn;t for performance gains its just to neaten it up a bit as the extreme high temp paint won;t stay on.

no point in wrapping any part of the exhaust thats under the car. Hot air from around the exhaust will be moved with air flow out the back. It will be f*cked within months aswell thanks to speed bumps, dirt and wet weather!

so the cat is in the 4-2-1 manifold? never seen one like that befor!!!. Surely that takes away the point of having 4-2-1 as your not going to get the performace gains. Would have thought a normal 4-2-1 and sports cat under the car in the mk1 place would be better.

Just had a look, never seen those befor. As i said above though, your not going to get full advantage of a 4-2-1 manifold because its got a cat in it. The advantage is thats is a sport cat and not standard!.

I still say a normal 4-2-1 with a sports cat (or no cat ) under the car would be better. Untill its gets back to back tested its just my opinion lol
