engine running hot in towns...twin fan conversion?

  1. #1
i have a vtr 'y reg' 33000 and 1 owner from new, engine is in perfect condition and completely standard....but, i am doing a lot of city driving and inevitably i am standing still a lot of the time, is it worth swapping to twin fans to try and keep it cooler? how easy is it to do and how easy are the bits to find?
    any help appreciated

could just turn you engine off at red lights would save fuel too

Maybe check anti freeze, and no air in system, or nissen rad.

If you loosen the torx screws in rear qaurters slightly it allows fan to kick in earlier too.

If the cooling system is in good nick with everything correct (pump, coolant, rad, bled up, fan etc) the car should not overheat in traffic.
Bigger rad and twin fans should help, but as you've would have to have had everything apart to fit them its not going to show up the old problem which would be cheaper to fix

Hmm it shouldn't over heat... Sound like the coolent system not working at 100%

Twin fan setup will just hide the problem how do you mean over heat how high dose it go? The standard fan should control it well enuf.

Also don't want to over cool the engine....

twin fan setup or bigger rad wont over cool as long as the thermostat is functioning correctly. It will just cool quicker once the stat is open

Looks like thermostat is not opening like it should...

Thought he was going to hard wire a second fan with a switch.

But again it not needed standard system should be good enuf. Maybe it be worth flushing the system see if there any crap in the system.

I'd flush the cooling system first!

Also check the condition of the rad!

Do the heaters get nice and hot?

No good putting another fan in mate as if its overheating in traffic theres got to be a problem with the cooling system so no point wasting money on a second fan when its not needed

ok thanks a lot for all the replies, i think il take the whole cooling system apart over the next few days and see if anything is up cheers guys
