16v kent pt 51 cams Timing

  1. #1
Right now i have a set of these cams running in my car, currently on standard timing.

been tryna find out some info on these cams but cant seem to find anythink.

Question is do they run on standard timing or can they be tweaked to get a little bit more out of them ?

    Many thanks matt

Should run alright on standard timing etc but yeah you'd get more out of it i think!

cam timing can be a bit trial and error...

did you get a lift at tdc value witht the cams that you can set them up to?

best thing would be to have a proper rolling road session, then you can experiment and study the results. and relay them back to the masses

May or may not be any help, but i bought an engine with these cams in and they are set on standard timing.

Will run on standard timings but is designed to be dialled in correctly.

PT51's lift at TDC should be 1.22mm (Inlet) and 0.91mm (exhaust). You may (or may not) get more power or better torque curve by spending time on the dyno fiddling, but frankly, it's not worth it for the +/- 1-5 lb/ft you might gain.

My piper 285s where setup properly, but I put them back to standard timing when I had to rebuild the head. It feels a tiny bit slower but its deffinately making more torque in the mid range, swings and roundabouts really

Granted I'm boosted, but we made about 30bhp from standard timings to correct (cat cams recommended) timings. There's probably more to be had if we fiddled, but frankly we're happy like that.

If I was to do anything, I'd probably dial back the exhaust a touch to improve torque lower down a touch.

Like you say - you'll get the (95%) of the maximum power from the recommended timings. The remaining 5% is down to "fiddle factor" for your exact engine - and on a NA car, thats more a preference on torque etc than trying to extract maximum power IMO.
