what tools?

    what tools would be needed to rebuild a saxo vtr/vts engine or is there a thread somewhere?

    tbh mate if you don't know which tools you need to rebuild an engine i don't think you should give it ago.

    a flange spreader and a boring tool, theres plenty of them around if you know where to look, i've got a suspicion that tonto may have access to a boring tool if you need one

    your just jealous that my tool collection is much larger than yours.


    a basic tool kit, should contain everything you will need to complete the engine side of things. they are pretty basic tbf.
    but then you will need a cambelt kit too, so you can lock your pullies etc. just to make life that bit easier.

    my only concern will be the timing so will revise that otherwise i should be ok

    if i dont strip one down my self i will never learn so i prob will make mistakes ect but ill learn and know more at the end. plus its only a wee 1.1 engine. getting practice before i put a bigger engine in that i want to rebuild too.

    take your time, take pictures, make diagrams . . . all to help you to know what goes where, and how.

    and you shouldnt have any issues.

    oh also, get a Torque Wrench from 8/10Nm upwards. dont now off the top of my head what the lowest tightness of the saxo engine will be, but expect some things to seem "loose" when actually, its just right!
    dont get the right settings on the lower end, and expect it not to turn over.

    got something to explain, the correct order too, again i dont know what a saxo is, for crank and sump ect, but most are centre and out clock wise.

    Female torx bits are handy for the bolts in the head...

    Offset spanners, ratchet spanners, 1/4-3/8 deep and shallow sockets, stubby, flexi and breaker bars in the 1/4 and 3/8 size, impact gun, 3 tonne rocket lift jack is handy along with ratchet axel stands, 3/8 hex/torx bit set

    This is just some of what I've got in my toolbox, and I've only got a 9 drawer toolbox, there is allsorts of handy things you'll need, most of which are insignificant all the time.

    Much like my impact gun, takes the wheel nuts off the car nice and easy, especially when I've forgotten to loosen them before jacking. You could easily say it's not worth keeping for that fact, but, when I took the gearbox off, I couldn't stop the flywheel bolts from moving when I was trying to take off the flywheel, impact gun did it no problem as it's spinning on it's centre and not from an angle. Saved me time in not having to manufacture something.
