Chipping or unlocking a ecu ?

Can anyone help as to what these terms mean ? i know one or the other makes the car rev higher or go faster ?

My mate has a vtr too and wants to mess around with the ecu can someone enlighten me and him as to what we can get done to it and what effect it will have on the car.

Unlocking = being able to use it on another saxo without the immob box/ingition key from one car.

Chipping - crappy generic mod usually. Search into remaping the ecu once you have done some mods.

Basically if you unlock a ECU it just it removes the immobiliser,
Say you're pissing about with some wires behind the dash or whatever and accidentally pulled one out and touched another one that it shouldn't then it could potentially immobilise you're car.
Unfortunately i know this as i pissed about with cigarette lighter and my car immobilised.
It's always best to have a unlocked ECU imo.
My Bluehawk one has served me well for a long time.

Also i wouldn't bother chipping it, waste of time.

Cheers, there was one on ebay that said it was unlocked and chipped and was the same as my vtr's ecu so was tempted to bid but didnt want to bid on something that was potentialy pointless lol

Professionally unlocked ECU's are always a bonus,
If you ever come across one always ask for the receipt.

Some remapping firms try to push the cars' performance past it's physical limitations. This is dangerous, and whilst the short term benefits will be amazing performance, the life expectancy of your engine will be dramatically reduced.

whilst the short term benefits will be amazing on your performance you will be slowly killing your engine.
