cam identify?

hi guys, I had an old engine about that I had spare, ripped what looked like a standard engine apart and it had pocketed pistons.. on the end on the cam shaft it had a 36 and then the citroen badge?

    Any help folks?

Define pocketed pistons? Standard pistons have valve cut outs in them

Sound like standard cams, any numbers on the body of the cams?

well there are high compression pistions with very deep pockets.

By body do you mean as you are looking down at the head when it is on the engine? If so then 36 is on the shaft beside the lobes

    sorry for the poof discription

Any chance of posting up a couple of pictures?

If got high comp pistons, then one would assume some wild cams - the cams say anything on the end of them?

Ahhhhhh sorry I thought It was a 16v engine!!

That piston cut-out looks like a standard piston with a cutout in it I'd say.

Double valve springs look nice - you removed the cam? The only numbers on it are 36?

i thought there was only one small cut out on a vtr piston, not 2?

No sorry I forgot to mention it was a 8 valve

to be honest I do not want to remove the cam ect and would like to find out the spec to sell on really.

It has an adjustable pulley also which kind of makes me wander why you would want to adjust the standard timing on a standard cam? And why go to the effort of bigger valves and double valves springs ect If you can not get enough air in for the valves in the first place?

The bigger cut out is about 3-4mm deep so surely that is a big deep for standard?

    I'm confused, where's two cutouts?

I'm pretty sure there's 2 cut outs in 8v high comp pistons, but only one definitive cut out in the piston above? Not sure if there's a mark on the piston made by the exhaust valve.

We'll need more info to try and guess what cam you've got

I meant it looks like a standard piston with a larger valve cut out cut into it.

The only real way to identify the cam is to find more markings on it - surely very hard to sell without knowing the cam spec.

I agree that it doesn't appear to look like a standard cam if it has double valve springs and vernier pulley - if I was in the Market for an 8v cam is hard to buy a cam not knowing the spec of it

There is a smaller cut out on it too but it's hard to see with crap photo's

What other info would you need? I am trying to find out the spec of the engine all I know it was built in a white ax by gmc in about 1999 and featured in a few magazines

I have somebody after the head but I do not know how much it is worth when I do not know the cam shaft

    Hopefully it's not a re-profiled cam

Might be worth pinging John from gmc a pm on here and see what he says?

Is there any more numbers whatsoever on the camshaft?!

He can roughly remember it but not the spec

Just a citreon badge and 36 on the actually shaft part. I may look at it more closely for marking and see what there is on it.

Sorry can't be much more help - like you say, it could be a custom reprofiled standard camshaft.
