not sure mate , i think it would i know some people do it cause its a good bhp gain , unsure weather its mk1/mk2
  6. #6
pretty sure its common on 1.4? iirc 106 owners has a section on it (tuning + performance 8v thread?)

cant see why not on an r, but wouldnt 16v head suit better?
  7. #7
16v totally different so it wont fit
  8. #8
oh ok, is it a different block then?
  9. #9
    yea 1 got 16v twin cam (GTI/VTS) 1 got 8v single cam (RALLYE/VTR/1.4)
cammed vtr will keep up with a gti/vts , have more torque and better mpg, if u can get that head and build a lump it should be a revvver!
  10. #10
yeah the 8v and 16v are only from the same series of engines (TU) but are in affect totally different

Yer the Rallye head will fit fine mate

Everything should swap over ok from the Blacktop head.

What cam are you using? Standard s1 Rallye cam?

Also when setting tappets, you need to set them to the s1 Rallye spec because it's different to the blacktop vtr.

try get the 1.3 rally inlet manifold , thats instant bhp!!
  13. #13
cheers fokes im pulling the head off my car this weekend as its leaking oil down the back of the block so il fire the rally head on and see how we get on

Arent they the same? my XSi head was 20/40 (like the vtr black tops) and the xsi head is essentially a rallye head I believe?

what have you done to this now?

Didnt want to start a new thread for my question thats related to this thread:

    Would a S1 1.3 Rallye Head fit onto a 98bhp Silvertop VTR engine 2001??

What else would i need for this to run??
    Loom, Inlet, Coilpack??

    Cheers

Im too interested in changing the head, and mine too is a 98hp silvertop, what power gains are you to expect?

Iirc, it cant be done to the Silver tops, only the black tops. I can'#t remember the reason for it but i'm sure Mikol told me about this.
  19. #19
it can be fittd to silvertops because i have done it
but you do have to chang alot of things

is it worth the effort? no
unless your planning onrunning a decent cam with other things then its not really worth the hassle
id say just out a mild cam on your vtr, only benifit of using the head from a rallye/xsi is the fact you get a decent cam standard and you can use the 1.3 s1 rallye inlet thats it

but then going through the hassle of that people will say just fit a16v it doesnt cost much more and you gain more.

Hi, i know this is an old thread but what did you have to do to make a rallye head fit. I ask because i want to use an s1 rallye inlet on my 98bhp mk2 vtr.
  21. #21
It'll fit physically no problem but you will want the loom splicing to take the rallye ecu as other wise it'll be crap. I did it to a 90bhp silvertop in a round about sort of way, never really run too brill on the vtr ecu

ok, i Dont really want to swap the loom. Are there any other inlets that fit that have better air flow that are not itb's.
  23. #23
I don't think there is. You can get plenty of power out of the stock VTR inlet. If you are after anything more your best to go itb's or even 16v.
  24. #24
no point in fitting rallye head uless you use cam as well ,then you need to remap to suit
and if going that far other options might be better
nosuch thig as a free lunch

Curious about this thread, im wanting to put a s1 rallye head on my 2000 plate vtr bottom end, so what other things need to be done to make it work? i have the full rallye engine, ecu, loom etc?
  26. #26
thats it, if you are keeping everything from rallye such as loom ,ecu, inlet etc then it'll work without too many bodges however there are various things that need to be sorted such as a return line and loom splicing.
a lot of effort really to build what will pretty much be a 1600 s2 rally unit as you wont be using the ali s1 block. Be better off fitting a vts unit tbh

I believe head should fit without any trouble. I am running stock VTR 90hk engine block and head, with a rally 1,3 intake and a newman ph3 cam on the stock 1,6 vtr ECU.
I have been driving with this setup for the last three years with no problems. It is a little lumpy on idle and in the winter it some times put on the engine fault lamp, with a error code conserning lambda regulation. This is because of the cam and the error code can be deleted and wont be back in a couple of months. This can be sorted with ECU mapping.

    This is my setup:
    2000 VTR 1,6 90HK
    Stock Engine
    Stock ECU
    Newman PH3 cam
    Adjustable cam pully
    Rallye 1,3 inlet and throttlebody
    CDA air filter
Stock Map sensor (Adaptor for sensor is needed)
Stock Throttle Pot (Adaptor bracket is needed)
    Rallye idle stepper motor
    Rallye air temp sensor
    Rallye throttlebody heater
    Sports Cat

    Hope that helps you out....?
