Vtr/vts conversion

  1. #1
I'm considering converting my 1.1, and sorry if this topic has already been covered.
My Saxo is a mk1, if I bought a mk2 engine would I be able to run it using a vtr ecu from a mk1?

I just don't want to replace the whole loom,
    Thanks

Nope! ... If u have a mk2 engine u need a mk2 ecu .. (3 plug) .. mk1 ecu are single plug ... u need to get a vtr vts engine out of the same year as ur's! .. Looms differ from year to year ... I.e .. Single plug .. 3 plug .. other end of loom .. 1 Screw on connecter an a green an yellow push on or two screws on's ... Then u need twin fan set up for vts engine an all other bits ... Plus if u go from a 1.1 to a vtr/vts u would need disc's axle at the bk to stop it cuz drums ent gud enuff! ...

i have a 01 ph 2 1.4 saxo 1 screw connector. and i bought a 98 106 gti 16v engine what set up will be easiest to run that

not even worth doing if im honest mate, was going to do a conversion on my vtr and figured it wasnt worth it. let alone a 1.1.. im thinking you have drum breaks too lol??? pointless! the amount of work needed to make it stop and corner as well as it goes will cost £££ would be a cool sleeper car in therory, just keep it as a theory though... and insurance? if you get pulled or crash with a 16v lump under there you will get arse raped!! guessing your 17 if you just have a 1.1 take my advice and just get a vtr and if the insurance isnt too bad so vts that's what im mid way through doing

yes, you can splice the looms

do what im planning. im going to cam a 1.4 westie. with a supersprint system and a few other bits and bobs, should be pushing out a little more than the VTR, and sound a lot better.

Look around the for sale threads, can pick up a VTR/S axle for like £100

why would you want to do that and waste money on a 1.4, apart from insurance costs! Vts engine ftw!

You dont need a disc beam front brakes do all the stopping anyway.

You'll need a vts enging, loom and ecu and youll have to weld a vt top engine mount in too iirc

it can be done on standard mounts

exactly that, i've already got the quotes and is cheaper to cam my 1.4 then even put a VTR lump in, plus I want something a little different which will go just as well as a VTR, but sound much better and more fun

When I get a VTS I want it standard, I dont want the "S" lump in a westie car for example.

I dont get this how would a cammed 1.4 8v be pushing out more than a vtr would? I'm not too up on the 1.4 8v but I'd think its got small valves and would be restricted in the head

its only 15bhp less than the VTR. cams, decent induction kit, full supersprint with de-cat and a remap? got to be more than 15bhp increase, plus the 1.4 box is shorter so a bit more acceleration gain more than top end.

a remap alone can give up to 10bhp, plus as stated, its something different and all that is still cheaper on insurance

I'm not sure it'd make 20 bhp from just a cam but it depends whats fitted and how its mapped. One thing to consider is a 1.4 XSi engine as thats good for 103bhp standard but you'll probably require loom changes to run its ECU or a remap at the very least. Either is going to be costly!
