Decatting a westie

  1. #1
Hi Folks, as title suggests, looking at getting a decat for my westie.

I've used the search and can't find any answers to my specific questions so thought I'd post it up.

Cat is the horizontal under car, so easy to get a decat pipe to replace, not an issue.

I want to know will it have a negative effect on the cars performance, fuel consumption etc. and likely noise increase.

Also, is this illegal. Loads of people say yes and some say no. Some got stopped and got a £60 fine, some got told to retest emissions at a garage and produce documents to coppers within 7 days. Whats the crack?

Anyway, hope you fine people can help

frees up revs, i didnt see a fuel consumption change, made it slightly louded/more raspy.

used to be if it will pass emmisions then its ok, think new mot laws say even if it isnt visibly present its a fail iirc.

i have a magnex decat pipe for sale...

I asked all the questions before i decated my westie

    No volume increase
    No fuel consumption change
Dramatic noise change, pops and splutters and sounded fantastic
Eml wont come on as there is only 1 lambda sensor which is precat

Only prob is, itll fail an mot... But thats a no brainer

perfect thanks fella! I've literally only just passed my MOT with a brand new cat so I will keep whip it on for next yrs MOT. Loving the fact there's no volume increase when you did that, I have an induction kit and its kinda bellowy when you put your foot down anyway, but a nice pop when you lift off should be fun!
