Cam Belt Dilemna

  1. #1
    Hi all,

Have recently got an old Mk1 VTR on the road and looking to get the car 'refreshed' as a daily drive to keep the mileage off my Trophy and to reduce my fuel expenditure!

Car has had a full service and engine seems to run well.

Wondering if it is worth replacing the cam belt and tensioner as believe this is a fairly cheap and quick job.

Is it worth me having this done? Car has covered 112k miles and have no idea if it has been done before.

Also, best place to get the bits as cheap as possible?

    Thanks

if your unaware of when it was last done then get it done soon.but with it running well i shouldn't imagine it need doing asap

just get it done, for the sake of a few quid and a bit of spanner work its not worth the hassles you'll get when it snaps

Really easy on an 8v as well, I'd recommend doing it yourself

If you're in any doubt, get it done - small price for piece of mind.

Did you get your timing issue sorted out Gandi?

Yes mate, put it all back together with a new head gasket and bolts, timed it up and it started first turn of the key. Had to flush the oil a few times to get rid of the gunk but its clean now
