Newman 270 rally cam

  1. #1
Got a saxo vtr. And fitted my Newman cam yesterday, its the 270 degree rally cam.
    I ordered it from Newman.
Basically I've fitted it and it's made NO difference the engine still run spot on no lumpy idle no nothing ! And if anything it seems a little slower !

    Any ideas? Anyone ?

Does it say these require a re map?

    As mark said.
If they don't require a re map I would stay clear of them myself.
Got the ph3 newmans fitted now mark, just waiting on getting predator at end of month now.

Yup it's timed up spot on.
Yeah it says on the site that it won't run on standard injection and will require a remap.
All I can think of doing is advancing the timing on the vernier.

Ive just fitted my phase 3 and heres the outcome of the car idling without a re map.

Did you buy an adjustable pulley?
  8. #8
    Yup got a vernier pulley

First off have you had it mapped then?

Looks like this cam needs a remap and timing tweeked on a dyno, and also don't know what you was expecting? Massive increase? Would of seen more from getting a standard vts engine.

Anyway get it mapped next should see some increase, to get the most out of the cam will need a remap I guess.

Yeah I know I should of just chucked a 16v lump in
Well I wasn't expecting massive gains but I was expecting at least a little difference

Cheers mate I'm happy with it.
Plenty of pictures in my progress thread.
Maybe your best of getting it re mapped mate, you will see the performance gains then.

I probs won't get a remap till I've fittedy throttle bodies

Can you get bodies for 8v. Ive always thought you couldn't, only 16v.
Anyone prove me right or wrong.

i ph3'd my vtr, with rallye inlet, green induction, 4-2-1, straight through

i had to adjut the timing to fuck to get some power out of it, still was shit, worst mod ive ever done for the price

    hence i wnet turbo

    Yes you can.

I put Kent cams in my 1st vtr mk2 and after spending 330.00 on camshaft plus pulley and then labour on top of that would have been cheaper to get a 16v lump but did notice a little difference but no where near what they claim you will get.
Still had great fun with it and made me even more happy when I got the gti.
Best thing to do is just look forward to getting a 16v after the vtr if your still in to saxos / peugeots.

I've Used R1 bodies and made a manifold to fit
I'm a mechanic so I fitted the cam myself and a friend in the motorsport business got me the cam and pulley and only cost me £250.
If I don't see any gains after my bodies have gone on I'll chuck a blower on it .
Got a couple of turbos Layin around at work.
