Anyone know when a cambelt should be ideally changed? and an idea of cost?iv jus hit 60k in my vtr.

People say as a guide 60k or when the belt's 3-5yrs old, whichever come's first.. If your's has the original one on from '03.. would definitely need changing soon.

What i did pal is brought my cambelt of ebay for 50quid, then i went to my local garage and he charged me 70 to fit, so in total thats 120quid. If i was u id buy the cambelt myself as garages can charge you crazy amounts of dollar to buy and fit.

you want a cambelt kit, gates are good get one of those. I would also change it very soon if i was you.

i agree, get a cambelt kit there ideal. arnt to bad to change either if your confinent

as people said, buy a cambelt kit, and if you have a slight amount of mechanical knowledge, get a haynes manual and do it yourself - its reasonably simple to do

if your going to get a garage to fit it then just let them buy it.

atleast then your garuanteed and they cant turn around and say you gave us a shit belt etc.

also i'd advise getting the waterpump replaced at the same time, cause if that goes its belt of jobbie and bye bye engine.

cant remember the exact cost but i had my garage supply and fit a water pump and complete timing belt kit including tensioner/pulley etc and it was somewhere between £150 - £180 i think.

    buy a gates kit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-SA...item231483f2d5

defo get a water pump aswell and just pop into a decent garage shouldnt cost more than 2 hours labour.

That's good money 44 quid for a gates cambelt kit, as said buy a waterpump aswell

as above, definatly change waterpump at the same time, do it yourself is always a good choice. Done head gasket, waterpump, cambelt and changed camshaft all using guides on here!
  11. #11
Do it yourself, the change of the water pump is the only difficult bit and thats because its a only a pain to get out the block!

thanks everyone. i have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever except for the basics. i will probably just take it to the garage. id mess it up if i did it myself but will make sure i get the water pump done aswell. cheers

Know you've already got your answer but cambelt and waterpump change at 60k is definetly advised.

If still on the original clutch at 60k you might want to get that changed fairly soon too.

    Hey guys.

Firstly, those advertising have been reported. Cough up your £200 a year and cough up for liability insurance before you advertise here.

Secondly, i can do the VTR Cambelt and waterpump for £170. Thats with a gates cambelt kit, waterpump, receipt and Warranty.

Thirdly, i can do the VTS cambelt and waterpump for £250 all inclusive. Same as above.

I'm based near Gatwick airport and I'm sure my reputation here says enough for you. I'm not like one of the above guys who works on a driveway with no insurance, leaving the customer to fall back on nothing if anything goes wrong.

There's no laws against a 'friend' helping you fix your car, then you give him some cash as a token of generosity and goodwill

But, good effort at getting rid of your market competition lol
