To wrap or not to wrap?

  1. #1
    Alright

Got myself a raceland manifold to accompany my John Ashley exhaust and was just wondering whether to wrap it or not.

Done a bit of research on here and have read mixed opinions from people so just wondered if anyone else had any more of an idea, or stories of theirs?

I know one of the main reasons is to help with engine bay temps but on the other hand I have heard that they can crack.

I think the performance gains would be negligible so that doesn't bother me, I was just trying to find out the best option in terms of heat controlling heat without melting anything or cracking the manifold.

    Cheers

unless you are going power hunting with boost or itb's I wouldn't bother but imo I would always do it just because I like the look of heatwrap and anything after that is a bonus
  3. #3
Fair enough........Just don't want to crack the manifold bearing in mind the raceland isn't exactly the best build quality haha

I think personally unless you can be bothered to keep polishing every little bit of it, it starts looking bad pretty quickly, and for me on a daily driven car thats not an option so thats another benefit of the wrap in my eyes. I mainly wrapped mine for the temps as ive got bigger plans though, anything else was just a bonus. Imo looks better though

I used to run a wrapped raceland and had no problems with cracking or anything

By retaining heat in the manifold it's supposed to help the gases flow better. Just watch you don't park right up on a curb as I did and caught the mani, tearing the wrap and it looked shite after that as it started to fall apart

I admit it does look good ................ so thats 2-0 the wrap haha

How much on average did you use to wrap the whole manifold?

    +1 to shuggs

i think heat wrapped manifolds, if done neatly, look really nice.

Ah...but you are infact wrong . i have wrapped them indivually but i preferred the look once i'd gone over it twice....but im sure people will be along to pick some more faults with my car shortly though!

    Oh right, i like it

barlow135 - You need 2" wide and 50ft long (15 metres) You will have some left over which you may wish to wrap up your centre pipe.

Don't get the 20ft length one as you'll be too short.

I wrapped mine but mainly only to stop the manifold from frying the alternator.

Performance wise there is bugger all difference to be had by wrapping.

But as stated it's practical, oh, and it looks great.

Ive heatwrapped my 4 branch on my vtr/xsi hybrid engine, its not really brought down the engine temps by any margin.

    This!

We use to do heat wrapping at work all the time but no customers ever noticed any difference. The best way to reduce engine bay temp's is ceramic coating allso looks cool as f**k.

Do you need any think to stick it on with or just rap it around and use metal zip ties
  25. #25

You usually get some shitty metal ties with the wrap.

I had a heap of jubilee clips in the garage so I used them.

My wrap ain't falling off without a fight lol

from what ive heard its best to get the wrap wet with water then you run the engine for the first time it cures it all together. not 100% but thats what i did on on my old starlet and it worked a treat.

People reccomended me to buy 50ft. Looks enough tbh. I bought some cheaper one as i don't want it to be too good and crack the manifold but do want to reduce bay temps.
