Vts head

Hi all, i have just registered to Saxperience after purchasing my VTR on saturday, till now i have been a vauxhall man, but going to try french!

Someone told me about replacing the top half of my vtr, with a VTS 16v. Is this correct or far from it? Any mods that could be reccomended? Lookin into fast road cam and throttle bodies, but just not too clued up on these engines to be honest.

    Thanks alot

    RYAN

Unless someone has a link to something useful?

    Cheers

No chance, whover told you that is a bellend

VTS head WON'T fit a vtr bottom end buddy...

It wont work - no cut outs in VTR pistons for the valves. Buying a full VTS motor would be a better idea, however Rallye/XSi heads work well on VTRs

Ok, Rallye/XSi heads, what power increase would you see from them? Also the as far as the fast road cams go, whats the difference between PT40K and PT50K Kent Sports cam shaft/kit. Unless any others can be recomended? Also what throttle bodies should i be looking for and are they worth the money?

better valve springs on the xsi/rallye heads and they flow better due to best combustion chamber design. The also have a 270 degree cam as standard too and you can pick a good head up for less than £100.
New aftermarket cam and bodies will be expensive and in my view a waste of money, when you think you can get a VTS unit and cam that and see more power. If it was my money I'd put on an XSi/rallye head and a rallye inlet should give you some decent gains providing you have a good exhaust system too.

Ok so you feel VTS Unit + Cam, with the Xsi/rallye head and rallye inlet? What sort of power increase would i look to achieve with this, including air induction + exhaust system, and based on that mine is the 100bhp mk2, would 118bhp - 120 be unrealistic? as thats what im after if not a bit more to be honest thats why i was looking into the tbs

    Thanks

Your current bottom end with rallye/xsi head and rallye inlet OR the VTS unit with cams etc. Hard to say what the power figures would be to be honest as every engine is different, I'm sure someone will give you figures. I run a standard 1.6 xsi unit in my VTR which is supposedly 105 bhp but most of that is down to the map on the ECU i reckon, so I reckon a remap might help you out but they are costly

You can get the vts head to fit it's not a case of it won't work, it's a case of it needing so much work to do so theres no point doing it.

Arent the blocks the same, so VTS pistons being put in should enable you to run the VTS head? Or atleast machining the old pistons. As you say though loads of work when you can get a VTS engine for 2-300 quid

Where is the best place to look for VTS engines? can you get these new/reconditioned?

Also am i right in thinking the turbo conversions are not worth doing to the vtr engine, in comparason to doing the conversion on a 16v

A reputable engine reconditioner will also do them but likely to be pricey again so Id plump for ebay or someone from here. For all this work though maybe you should source a low milage vts as a better starting point, providing you havent done too much to your own car. Turboing the VTRengine will give good performance gains but it isn't cheap. It all depends what you want really, what kind of usage will it get and what figures are you aiming for?

No havent done anything, its just a mk2 two tone thats completely standard at the moment, its a shame as at the moment i cannot view the classifieds! Yeah i will check ebay mate

yeh an s1 inlet, but i'm pretty sure it only fits on a mk1 saxo head

rallye inlet same as xsi? pretty sure xsi is the S1 equivilent to the GTI?

So both mk1 head + inlet

The rally inlet only fis VTRs not vts as the inlet port spacing is different on the vts.

If you can, and want to, straight swap a vts engine in there mate. Not a massive conversion. Then I'd focus on some head work, and some wild cams with a remap, 4-1 manifold raceland, piper, to name a few then a good quality system from there. I'd install a quick shift, uprate the front brakes, and strip it out. It wil be quick then.

Or can always boost the vtr for about 2gs.

Boosting an 8v is going to be similar to the 16v not much power difference but the 16v will generate more. If you hav never driven a boosted Saxo then it's hard to understand. These weigh fuck all, and the slightest of boost has a massive impact on power to weight. They become fast cars, the more you spend the faster they usually get. Boosting any 1.6 Saxo engine is worth doing.

Re rallye inlets. The metal inlet only fits the 90bhp saxo heads not the late 98bhp engines.

Also it was only fitted to the rallye, not the xsi etc...
