Warping discs

  1. #1
Having problems with the brakes on the sax,
When I first got the car it had slightly warped discs. I changed them straight away for a set of APEC ones.
Few months later and the brakes warped again
Fitted some pagid discs and again after a few months.... Warped
Same story again, got some premium discs and in a few months... You gussed it warped again

My initial thought was heavy braking but my last set I took really steady with but still came to the same problem.
I've inspected calipers and they look fine just a little stumped on this now

Symptoms are juddering under braking at high speeds
Rumbling noise under braking at high speeds
And at slow speeds you can feel the car stopping and going slowly under braking

you are putting new pads with the new discs right ? . . .not just keeping the same pads?

    Yeah haha.
Forgot to mention that I'm in the trade so have a decent idea what im doing

Have you tried adjusting the brake pedal, try this http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=194460

I did adjust that a few months ago but didnt do it enough to keep the brakes on, will double check later though

Worth a check, i presume calipers are working as they should and aren't binding/sticking at all

id be tempted to say the pistons are sticking . . .

take them out, service them ?

Quick q - are the disks running true when fitted to the hubs? Have you checked the disks with a dial indicator. Very odd to be warping all these disks but how hard are you on the brakes?

Double checked the adjuster, perfectly fine
Next step I guess is the calipers

Yeah they fit perfect on the hubs
Not checked with a gauge though as I havnt got one and neither has my work.

I'm definetly not braking too hard as the last set I took extremely carefully, going down gears and braking in plenty of time

Do you always sit at traffic lights with your foot on the brake rather than using the handbrake? If so that doesnt help!

Nope handbrake all the time, my ankle has problems if I stit with foot on brake too long

Going away from brakes slightly what are wheel bearings like? any play in them
  13. #13
I'm currently having the same problem, I've replaced the wheel bearing as that was knackered and now I'm going to replace the hub ~£40 as I've put new pads/discs on and with the car raised, engine on in gear the disc won't spin even at full throttle, but when it does move a little bit, you can see the calliper move from side to side, yet these are brand new true discs.

simple one... how are you tightening the wheels?

and are the hubs warped?, as these will warp the discs after a couple of months of them being hot under braking..

    Using the "opposites" method pal.

From an inspection the hubs look sound. No visible signs of warping

are you torquing them in or just tightnening them tight? as your supposed to torque alloys to about 100mn...wheel braces are just for winding them in, over tightening generally warps the discs

although very few inc myself if im honest do..
