Using flexi pipe as an air intake pipe

    Could I use a flexi aluminium pipe that people use as a cold air feed, but as an intake pipe? As in replacing the standard rubber intake pipe with flexi pipe or would it break from the air suction?

    Would you want to risk thin ally being sucked into the throttle body? what filter are you going to attach?

    The curve's in the 'flexi' pipe is obviously shit for airflow. Must be a reason they designed smooth tough rubber elbow pipe's for attaching to the throttle body..

    Was going to attach a k&n to the end of it. What about the flexi plastic hoses do you think they will be strong enough?

    You want something strong and tough enough it won't deform or collapse under any kind of vacuum, most cold air feed pipe isn't up to this, why most people use rubber or silicone hoses! You'd probably be alright with as long as the filters kept clean and doesn't get blocked, but I wouldn't be happy with it on my car.

    They're shit for airflow though. Why mess about cutting your hoover up for the plastic piping when there's proper tryed and tested stuff on sale?

    Eg buy a elbow like this one: http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/sh...0-POSTED%21%21

    Add a bit of this : http://intakehoses.com/Merchant2/mer...gory_Code=SIT7

    Then add your k+n to the end.. make up a heat shield to block heat from mani/engine.. and then use your hoover's piping to make cold air feed pointing to the air filter.

    That way, you get smooth airflow from the filter to the throttlebody without risking bit's of metal going into the head.

    Why would that be a waste of money? Is it a fake filter that doesn't filter anything? Is it overpriced does it not fit? Looks ok to me for the money plus you get the pipe with it...

    It's an induction kit at the end of the day, whether you have that normal blue one or a K&N filter on the end, it's only going to make a minimal difference anyway.

    You could even spend £500 ish on a ProComp and only gain 5bhp, my personal view is go for something mid market like the Simota that Kam Racing sell
