I was just wondering if it is possible to put a vts or 106 gti top end onto my vtr engine with new pistons etc instead of doing a full engine swap.
Also I know i would need a new ecu and loom so would it just be better to get a full engine?
    Thanks for any help

yes it will fit, but dont expect it to run!!!
    just change the full engine

I can't see that I would need a different gearbox though? Or will I? Best get all of my questions out of the way before I start to be fairi

    buy vts engine and box.

    fit and enjoy.

simple no faffing ripping internals appart and the vtr box is crap

like people have said mate, just throw a gti or s engine and gear box in, go to a scrappy get it all from a car you can see running and the ecu, you wouldnt even need to change the gearbox i dont think, realy will be so much easyer

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I will have a hunt around the scrappies for one, or ebay if I can find a good one. Its the loom I'm most bothered about but I'm sure I will learn

Just buy a written off vts as a donor car, then it's all there to use.

Thanks for the help. Will my manifold and things go on the vts too or will I need different ones?

if you buy a full car then everythings there, dont really need to take the manifold off really, as for the wireing you might not even have to take the loom out, if you have a single plug to your ecu and you buy a vts with a single plug then you might just be able to swap the ecu's over, dont take my word for it though because i havent done the conversion, my advise would be to read threw all the progress threads were people have already done the conversion, can learn alot and see mistakes people have made and avoid them

Yeah if I can get a donor car that would be the easy route like. But I have a 4-2-1 on my vtr at the minute. And a powerflow system I was just wondering if they would be ok on the vts engine too. Cheers for the advice mate.

if your car is a 02 plate you will need 3 plug ecu any 106/saxo gbok will fit best thing is to make the donor car the same year as yours due to loom differences

exhaust system is the same only part thats different is the mani so after you done conversion sell your engine plus mani and get most of your money back

1 plug ecu = under car cat
3 plug = under mani in engine bay so you will need this as yours is a 02 plate

Oh right cheers mate. That helps a lot. So I will still have to chance the loom then even if they are both 3 plug yeah?
  14. #14
best bet mate is if you have 02 plate get a 02 plate donor if it 3 plug it should fit mate but its better to be safe than sorry and get the same year donor car as yours

    As said..

it will be a lot easier to do this, then you'll have everything you'll need, then just sell bits off the donor car.

Thanks for the help everyone. I've been reading up on how its done and I'm a little less worried about the loom now. Just need to find a donor car or an 02 engine to buy

Sell R, buy an S, easier to insure!
