Jp4 engine

  1. #1
Ok guys I no there is a lot of information on here about these engines as I've been looking through the threads.
My only question that I haven't managed to find out is the wiring loom in a 106 gti the same for this engine to be fitted?
    Thanks

if you're using a jp4 then you're best off just using the bare block and head along with all the saxo/106 manifolds and ancillaries so yes,you can use the existing loom

    Ok mate thanks.
I've spoken to my mechanic about this and he thinks I would be best of just upgrading parts in my current engine etc.
Need to see what's gonba be the best and cheapest option really.

What are you expecting from the engine?

Just a lower mileage engine mate.

If its a bit tired then you could add up the cost of a small rebuild (rings, shells, stem seals, head skim, gasket etc) and youd probably be over what a low mileage JP4 would be.

That said, if your engines fine, I wouldnt bother doing anything!

Exactly what he said to do mate what you mentioned above.
Car as just over 133000 on clock but had a complete full engine re build at 50,000 by peugeot, just thought a small rebuild would be a good time to do.

I wouldnt bother unless you have problems dude, the cast block TUs are bombproof so if yours has already been rebuild Id save the cash and soldier on

Ye see what your saying mate, spend the cash else where.
Would you forget about it even with the mileage mate?

my first mk1 vts had about the same as yours and was still going strong bud, better than ever to be honest. regular oil change is the key and cambelt change, if you know your current one has been looked after and its ok, just stick with it.
but i can see where your coming from wanting a lower mileage motor, rebuild or replace, tough choice. but the TU are strong

come to think of it, my vtr was nudging 120k when i stuck the supercharger on it, just changed the cam belt, bearings and gave her a service ;D spot on lol

Bloody hell if the engine took a supercharger with that mileage mate think mine should be good. Must be as strong engines as people really say.

Really dude, if the oils not getting burnt, the engines quiet and doesnt seem down on power, its probably fine. That mileage is next to nothing. I had a VTS engine that was on 160k and was running absolutely fine, had just been serviced regularly; didnt get an easy life either!

Ok lads thanks for all the replys on this will just stick with the gti engine.
    Thanks all very helpful.

well i work away and i will change the oil and filter every 4-6months regardless, the key is the regular maintenance, do that and the car will be happy as fook, the blocks are strong as fook, no reason for damage if the oil is in good nick, cambelt kit change when your suppost to along with the plugs etc and your laughing, dont overlook the fuel filter either ;D

honest, the cars ran amazing, never chopped and changed as i never had the need to and never let me down on major stuff, just a coil pack, alternator and started over the years i had them. if your going to abuse the car, make sure you treat it right. lucky that the ones ive had have been looked after. 3 in total, still got 2 and the other went up in smoke, but that was my fault lol.

old 1500cc turbo f1 engines that ran over 1000bhp were made from shitty old blocks that had been left out to rot, peeps were encouraged to go out on pish on them lol, fair enough, they might last a race, but they coped with a shed load of boost, not what you would called looked after, abused but you get the idea lmbo
  17. #17
Heard a lot they are strong engines but didn't realise as much until the replys I got on this thread.
Maybe Citroen and Peugeot did get something right lol.
  18. #18
if you have a good mechanic and have any worries, you could sort new bearings, honed bores, rings etc. but it will probs be fine. depends on what you want to do with it in the future, if your going down the boosted route, you will want low comps, so all of that will be coming out anyways, same if your going down the high comp NA cammed a TB'd route.
if not and just going cammed and remap or standalone, for piece of mind give it a quick new lease of life for another 100k ;D i know a lad with a 1.8t passat that has over 250k on it and it still runs like new! lol

they did set guidelines for servicing etc, if you follow that they will last, its just the other bits that are shite lol, cheap enough to sort out though if you know what your doing.

always use a good oil and filter aswell ;D
  20. #20
its when you start not changing the oil and it turns thick, wears parts, starts going gritty, thats when its game over, a nice thin dark brown / blackish oil is good, shows you its doing its job;D
  21. #21
Ok mate thanks for all your help been very helpful. Will be going for the ITB soon now it's cammed but think that might be as far as I go, until I get bored lol.
  22. #22

I've got the gti and the misses has a vectra but don't think we could afford to insure or run another car mate although that will be good lol.
  24. #24
ha, who needs insurance i have one at my folks, one in the garage with a load of bits n bobs and a spare motor, boxes and shafts, im stock piling it all ;D

blast around in the beast of a 1.25cc fiesta until i get sorted.

really need to get rid of the one at my folks place, keep forgetting its there!
  25. #25
Ha ha must have too many cars mate if your forgetting you've got one lol.
When I had the car RR last weekend the guy pulled up in a 106 diesel that looked like it had seen better days then he pulls is old shape civic type R out the garage that he had turbo,d and was running 408hp at the wheels then he told me the 106 was just is run around, can't blame him.
Couldn't resist getting some snaps lol.
  26. #26
got a busy life and not enough time lol
really need to push over this winter to get one sold and the other ready for the track, been toooooo long lol.

civic sounds cool, older ones are then best, you can get amazing power out o them with turbos and superchargers, guy in my folks street had an old vtec crx with a super charger, didnt look the best, but was fookng rapid. another cracking engine if you look after them, i have seen a few blow up lol

i was reading your project thread today, looks sweet
  27. #27
Cheers mate just need to investigate after the poor figures I got after the RR.
Your car sounds the beast, must be good fun, would love to be able to do something like that to mine.
  28. #28
aye, get into it and find out bud.

the super charged vtr was canny.
never drove the turbo vts, engine is still on the stand being built up lol, i really need to get my finger out and get on it. should be sorted for track sessions next year ;D

all the best, hope you can get things sorted ;D

Nope, straight in, the wiring looms will need a connector changed. You need to use the n/s driveshaft from a Renault Mastervan (im sure it is), but only gearboxes from 1.0, 1.1, or 1.4 engines will fit on.
  31. #31
sorry for the noobish question but is the JP4 engine the 16v dohc one in the VTS?
  32. #32
jp4 is the more modern version of the vts engine, as used in c2,picasso,206,307,xsara etc
  33. #33
ahh cool. just been reading something about a TP engine...is that the VTS saxo one?
