#2do you want to do it yourself mate? if i was you, i would look at getting a haynes manual if you are trying something like this, it should have everything you need
-
#3yeah going to give it a go my self mate got plenty of time so should be ok just need a bit of a guide
-
#4i would go to halfords, take a look at the haynes manual and see if it has what you need in there mate! and then think about buying it
the cheapest place to buy is amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/184425280...SIN=1844252809
or if you wanna start it soon, then id just buy it from halfords
also buying this book really will help

#6Taken everything off I've got the head off with inlet manifold and exhaust manifold still attached could anyone tell me what I need to do to get it skimmed ie what i need to take off the head for it to be skimmed thanks bert
-
#7Everything basically. So its completely bare
-
#8I've just seen a video of it being done with valves and camshaft still in ? Why can't it be done just taking both manifolds off ?
-
#9You probably can, for piece of mind I made mine completly bare. so there was no risk of swarf/metal being caught in other parts.
-
#10So I could just take the valves out and leave the camshaft what sort of job is taking the valves out
-
#11All you need for the valves is a valve compressor and a piece of card, poke the valves through the card in the order they come out so they go back into the same ports.
-
#12Do I have to get a different thickness of gasket as I'm getting the head skimmed
-
#13remember to put the headbolts back in and tighten in the correct pattern ie start from the center and go outwards and torque up.
Normal gasket should be sufficient -
#14You dont need to take the valves or cam out for a skim. You need a large valve spring compressor to take the valves out though and while you are there you might as well grind them back in to get a good seal.
-
#15take the valves out along with the camshaft. its harder to take the valves out than it is to take the camshaft out. also there are a slightly thicker gasket avalible to thoes who have had the head skimmed
-
#16On the right side of the head there is like a water gallery which the coolant pipes go into I need a gasket for that. Where to get it from?
