Electrical problem...HELP

  1. #1
List of things that stopped working today on the Furio -

    Power steering
    Wipers
    Indicators
    Radio
    Blower
    HRW
    Elect windows

Fuses all ok...could it be the ignition switch?

From my knowledge the power steering, blower and HRW are all definitely the ignition barrel - follow this fix:

    http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...power+steering

Did it a few days ago to mine and works an absolute charm.

Not too sure with the rest though, does sound like the ignition switch that's causing it. Try holding down the electric window switch while jiggling the key back and forth in the barrel to see if it starts working for a split second.

If that fix doesn`t work then get the alternator tested.

Thanks for the quick replies... I had already searched and found that link Geraint, but asI had other problems thought it might be something else.

Forgot to add earlier that the tickover has gone a bit tits up too. Starts ok then after a while the revs rise to 1.5 - 2k then drop and so on, its got me miffed.

Ok, removed the steering shroud and found what appears to be a diode spliced in with white wire that feeds the passenger side fuse box...this appears to be knackered. So I bridged it and got the wipers, indicators, radio going and its ticking over ok. Still no power steering or blower tho.
Any ideas on why the diodes been put in?

Do the blowers/PAS pump start to work when you give it some revs?

Gandi, I think it was because I just bridged the white feed that the PAS and blower didnt work as there was a black wire in the mix also and that was left out.
Any way, new diode from Maplins fitted and alls working(for now)

    Thanks for the replies

Looks like the diodes getting hot and breaking down, think I need an auto electician now as im going around in circles. Any ideas of why its in there???

Guessing it's some sort of fix from the previous owner. You could replace it with a new diode for the time being.

The blower and PAS still sound like that problem I mentioned earlier - so it could be two problems. The diode problem you found and the ignition barrel fault that I posted. Try doing both of those, should fix all of your problems

Oh its definatly from the previous owner, but why its in there Iv`e no idea.
As mentioned earlier...its tied in with the heavy duty white wire that feeds the passenger fuse box, also an orange wire from the loom thats tied in with white on the ignition side of the diode...and a black wire tied in on the upstream side but also links in with a red on the ignition side.

It played up twice tonight...lost everything mentioned earlier, then when it cooled all was ok.

If push comes to shove I`ll try the mod, but somehow I dont think it`ll cure it?

Well that mod would cure the PAS / blower / de-mister, but the other stuff I've absolutely no idea. Sounds like a fix gone wrong by the sounds of it bit out of my league sorry, but be sure to let me know when you get it fixed!

Had the electician out today and he`s sorted it, reckons the diode was probably tied in to an auto start off the alarm fob. Plus one of the feeds was dodgy so he put a 30A relay in thats fed from the ignition, so all the load basically by-passes the ignition now....£40...sorted.

Now a new starter and a shit load of welding needed on the rear inner wings
