After dropping 1.4 block in a 1.1

  1. #1
after this what things Need to be adressed sutch as i need to get new exhaust as the backpressure is effecting it. Aslo changed the plugs but think the coil packs gone or some other sensor. It oftern wont tick over untill you rev it up relativly high like atleast 4k+

As you can probly imagine i keep coming across diffrent things that could be issues as it dont run that well tbh. it does at high revs but when were talking about idle its a bag of shit but its always looked after me when its needed to make a move.

Thanks in advance for any ideas

ps. What about the ecu as its running on the 1.1, Will it be able to adjust to the change or is this why I get the smell that it might be overfueling ??

    Thanks
  2. #2
Could be simple ecu change to 1.4 ecu. but overfueling can come from many things like exhaust blowing then lamba sensor getting told to add more fuel , then ecu tells it to pump more fuel blowing anything like tht. and when u say back pressure is affecting it i guessing you got blowing problem ?
  3. #3
Id change the ecu, maybe new injectors but try a new ecu first.
  4. #4
Well I wouldnt call it a blowing issue, But the connection between my backbox & pipe isnt airtite but not any holes ehter just a slight gap in the clamping situation, Maybe I should use exhaust paste ?

But backpressure it jsst sounds like the gasses are finding it hard to escape obvcourse this could be in my head & it might be fine. Im reluctant to change the hole exhaust system at the moment anyway.

Pretty sure the coil packs gone. All sensors need to be replaced or cleaned oils been changed with filter, new plugs have gone in. Deffinetly needs cambelt & waterpump change but also reluctant.

    Anything else ???
  5. #5
well why would you use a 1.1 ecu on a 1.4??

Its in the name.... just the block was changed
  7. #7
1.4 block and 1.1 head? that and a 1.1 ecu is why it runs shit

i dont see the reasoning in taking a 1.4 engine, taking the head off and fitting a 1.1 head and having to go through the expense on having a head skimmed and buying the head gasket kit and bolts and cambelt for no foreseeable power gain?

opposed to just fitting a 1.4 engine and ecu and probably having a more powerful engine and one that runs right and even then it would be no more hassle to just fit a vts enigne, seems a lot of faffing around going on

and 99% of people would assume (going from your title) that youve just fitted a 1.4 engine not just the block, didnt make that clear at all

I didnt choose it, I bought it off my mate for alot less than what it was worth & now im deffending it an tryin to fix the issues. What more can I do. & Im not sure about the head tbh Iv never actualy give it much thought before but it is a fuckin dumb idea if it is like that.
  10. #10
& its not underpowerd aswell by the way, Iv had it off with a full quiksilver an got infront an away & obviously some of thats down to the drivers but he was a decent driver + its nice when your moving its when its ideling mostly its a peice of fucking shit
  11. #11
so you got it from a mate for less then its worth? guess you were paid to take it away then. Theres so many reasons on here for your problems its untrue, wrong ecu, wrong head, wrong injectors the list can go on
  12. #12
i have heard of using bigger heads on smaller blocks but never the other way around
  13. #13
Why didnt you get all the 1.4 gear from your mate to convert it properly? Sounds like the ultimate bodge job
  14. #14
it kept overheating tried new thermestat, bleedin the rad, new rad, thought the headgasket had gone an he had a quiksilver lyin about so he changed certain (not sure of all the) parts an then turnd out to be the new thermestat was fucked anyway.

&& your moanin like you cant see im the 1 tryin to sort out the issues now.
  15. #15
Im not moaning mate - its the way the jobs been done in the first place.
  16. #16
were not having a go at you lol were just saying that the list is endless why its been done in the first place and what can be wrong with it

my advise is buy a vtr engine for £50-100 and drop that in, would be cheaper to fit a vtr engine over trying to fix that cobbled together engine, you'll just be throwing money in to a pit

Just found out its the 1.4 block and 1.4 head, but everythin other than the ecu, gearbox and echaust is 1.4.
Souced a furio ecu on here erlia & hopefully can get it posted today. Im pretty sure im in need of a coil pack. Whats my next best thing to change?

& Thanks for the advice on the drop a vtr in there I would love to but I wouldnt be able to do the job done llol not confident enough to do a job that big
  18. #18
so its a complete 1.4 engine? 1.4 ecu should sort it and exhaust will be fine.
rough idle and overfuelling could be a vacuum leak left over from the conversion

Its a common thing. Some heads have differnt cams which give longer duration and lift and different combusion chambers etcc

this is usually the case for rallye/xsi heads, but a 1.1 head isnt going to be anything special lol

anyway looks like were getting some where, the next logical step is deffo fitting the 1.4 ecu, if it is still playing up then come back and im sure someone will have some good ideas for you to try
  21. #21
I would assume the 1.1 8v head is the same as the 1.4 8v, with maybe a different cam?
  22. #22
Just bought the furio ecu. Posted tomorrow should be here thursday.
  23. #23
    unlocked?
  24. #24
Shit i dont even know what that means. Can you explain it to me ?

if its not unlocked it wont work with your engine, you can get it unlocked but costs about £60 iirc, or if the seller still has it attacehd to the car then all he has to do to unlock it is turn the engine on, pull the immobilser out and then it will unlock, then turn the car off and on again to make sure it works

possibly smaller combustion chamber in the 1.1 head. im not sure if the 1.4 has a bigger bore or longer stroke than the 1.1 to increase capacity but i imagine its bore
